Sentry
Healthcare workers do tedious bed-to-bed rounds every two hours with an average of 28 positive patients for 16 hour shifts getting oxygen level saturation and heart rate.
With frequent and longer exposure to positive patients healthcare workers were at greater risk for COVID-19 infection. Medical institutions can mitigate these problems by implementing a system that can provide the same output without compromising the frontliner’s health and life.
We aim to allow healthcare workers to simultaneously monitor the SpO2 and heart rate of covid patients remotely. Reduce the time for healthcare workers when checking patients. Allow healthcare workers to see the trend of patients' vital signs in real-time through data logging.
Sentry, our solution, is an IoT-based COVID patient remote monitoring system that collects oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate (BPM) using the MAX30102 Sensor. WeMOS D1 Mini was used in order to process data to a server that would encrypt and store it to a local and firebase powered cloud storage.
Healthcare workers may access vital trends and historical data at any time, both locally and remotely, using Mobile and Web Applications by integrating React JS on front end and Node JS for the back end.
The solution aims at Healthcare Workers for the benefit of their safety by allowing them to remotely monitor their patients' vital signs, therefore, reducing their exposure to COVID-19 patients.
This solution also improves patients' safety by allowing them to monitor their vital signs on the device as well as ensuring that their health is monitored without having the risk of transmitting disease. This solution would also benefit Medical Facilities that do not have the budget to purchase a large-scale monitoring system.
TeraCare was initially built to bridge the IoT Healthcare Solutions to real-life. After conducting extensive research and interviews, we decided to present the device concept to five healthcare professionals, with each of them having experienced COVID patient monitoring and all of them supported the idea of having a remote monitoring system as it is one of the sought out solutions for their pain points in terms of monitoring COVID patients.
Our team is composed of Computer Engineering students of the University of San Agustin Iloilo. We believe that we have the expertise and skills to build the device and develop its capabilities to its utmost extent over time.
- Build fundamental, resilient, and people-centered health infrastructure that makes essential services, equipment, and medicines more accessible and affordable for communities that are currently underserved;
- Prototype
TeraCare is hoping that Solve will be able to connect us with professionals who can help us not just financially, but also solve the issues we face in implementing our solution. To be more specific, the company needs guidance in collecting documents such as data privacy and ethics while deploying our technology at the medical facilities we are targeting.
- Legal or Regulatory Matters
TeraCare wants to decrease infectious diseases exposure, cut the cost, and time for healthcare workers by implementing remote patient monitoring of oxygen level and heart-rate with real-time data visualization and alert to achieve continuous preventive, predictive, and proactive care.
Sentry has key features such as remote monitoring, data logging, data visualization, local and firebase powered cloud for data storage.
For the time being, composed of both public and private hospitals, Sentry could service the 65 COVID facilities in Western Visayas, and one of our goals is to expand our operations not just to private hospitals but to the Philippines' 1,915 total hospitals.
Another objective of the company is to develop Sentry in order to get other important vital signs such as temperature and blood pressure.
We aim to achieve SDG Goal 3, the Good Health and Well Being, that may solve the issue of overworked and exposed healthcare workers handling patients with infectious diseases using IoT-based remote monitoring devices. We've set parameters of stages for the development of the device, currently, we are prototyping of the device and will be moving to fabricate the parts and circuits. It will also be measured through the number of organizations and medical institutions we will be partnering with and the number of device produced.
The provided solution that we have come up with was formulated through intensive research and interviews from healthcare workers who have experienced problems in monitoring COVID patients.
Through their response, we were able to determine the solution needed. As well as the level of impact that the device would bring to their professions.
Sentry uses Internet of Things (IoT) to explore different aspects of patient care by providing real-time health monitoring and access to patients' health data. This is important for healthcare stakeholders seeking to enhance patient health and experiences and improving operation.
Sentry, on the other hand, provides an option of storing patients' data in cloud storage. Any person or application with a verified need to view and act on cloud-based medical data has accessibility to it.
Furthermore, Cloud services allow healthcare data backup in real time. This service was made to be available because of Firebase, a simple, and cost-effective object storage service built for Google scale.

We are open to work with anyone as long as we share the same mission and vision towards achieving our team goals. We are also hoping to have someone in our team that is directly involved in healthcare during pandemic to have a different perspective on the problem.

Aside from offering the Sentry system Package itself, additional Sentry Pulse Oximeters can also be bought to accommodate more patients and as well as an additional cloud service for each oximeter registered. We will be mainly relying on our monthly cash flow through cloud subscriptions that would make us sustainable in the long run.
We were able to pitch Sentry to a Regional and National Solutions Challenge and were able to win 28.83 USD and 57.65 USD respectively. We've used this funds to develop and advance our prototype.
