The unmet need for friendly sexual reproductive health and rights information among young people with hearing impairment remains high due to existing communication barriers ( limited of sign language skills among health workers), lack of sign language interpreters in health centers and inaccessible information materials. This mean that they are three times more likely to be at elevated vulnrerability risk to sexaul transmitted infections, teenage preganacies and unplanned preganancies.
According to the 2014 Uganda National Housing and Population statistics, there are over 1,083,649 Deaf people in Uganda (UBOS 2014). This accounts for roughly 3% of Uganda’s population. They are often marginalized, isolated and their sexual reproductive rights violated.
