ASDO Pesquisas
The main problem is the difficulty of publicize scientific research and finding volunteers.
Because to carry out a scientific research, researchers go to a health or teaching institution, in which volunteers can be identified according to the inclusion criteria of their research, but when these researchers come across an old medical record or an outdated contact of the volunteer, this generates the difficulty of finding the volunteers and disseminating the research to them.
In addition, researches in virtual environments are usually carried out through online forms, such as Google Forms, Forms App, or the survey website itself, and these forms need to be shared in various means of communication, spending a lot of time to publicize the research and find volunteers, considering that these possible volunteers are not centralized in a single means of dissemination, where it is possible to identify their profiles and to classify them within the inclusion criteria of a research.
ASDO will be a virtual platform, available in application and website, where researchers will be able to apply questionnaires, conduct interviews and schedule the face-to-face participation of volunteers.
There will be two types of researches available: the “unique research” (with one step) and the “continuous research” (with more than one step).
Volunteers can participate in 4 different ways:
- Questionnaire: the volunteer will answer a self-administered online questionnaire;
- Call: the volunteer will answer an interview through a call from the researcher;
- Sending documents: the volunteer can send documents through photo files (exam results);
- Face-to-face: the volunteer will be invited to go to the researcher's institution, on the day and time that will be scheduled on the platform.
The purpose is to improve the efficiency of conducting scientific research related to human beings.
Operation:
1) Volunteers will access and register on the platform, filling in their socioeconomic and health data;
2) These data will be compiled and made available on the ASDO Database, so that researchers will be able to see which audience of volunteers the platform has;
3) ASDO will receive researches already approved by the Ethics Committees, and the researcher will select whether the research will be "unique" or "continuous" and will also select the type of pre-selection, which can be from the ASDO Database, or through from a questionnaire, or through the results of another research;
4) ASDO will publicize the research on the platform, sending notifications to volunteers;
5) The volunteer can participate: by questionnaire; by call; by sending documents; or face-to-face;
6) ASDO will send the results to the researchers;
7) The researchers will have to publish a scientific article in some journal;
8) Researchers will communicate to ASDO where the article was published;
9) ASDO will send a notification to the volunteer stating where the article was published.
To get volunteers to participate in the research and their registration on the platform, we will work on the marketing of the platform with awareness strategies about the importance of volunteering in scientific research. In Brazil, scientific research is already carried out through volunteering, due to the resolutions of the National Health Council. Thus, the platform will bring all these volunteers and researchers together in one place.
The research results will contribute to the development and evolution of the social and health areas.
This problem is found among researchers, such as undergraduate and graduate students, professors, health or social professionals, among others, who work with clinical research or academic research, from undergraduate research, final paper, or other research, involving data collection and/or experimental intervention in humans.
The main existing research platforms work for market survey, where they generate financial advantages for their participants, making it impossible to carry out scientific research, from which they seek volunteering in Brasil. Examples of such market surveys platforms are "Toluna", "Survey Monkey" and "Google Opinion Rewards". As a result, most scientific research that is applied online needs to be disclosed individually, such as through online forms, for example through GoogleForms questionnaires or from a research website. However, this way it takes much more time to recruit volunteers.
Thus, we can consider that the ASDO platform will be an innovative platform by centralizing volunteers and scientific research in a single place, considering the various types of research involving human beings, which can be research in the social or health area, clinical or medical research, or cohort study, or any type of research involving human beings, as any of these researches can be classified with the type of unique or continuous research and with the methodology involving the type of participation by questionnaire, by call, by sending documents or face-to-face.
I study at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. In Brazil, Federal Universities are the main drivers of scientifics researches in the country.
We believe in the potential that the platform has and we are working hard to make it work.
- Identify, monitor, and reduce bias in healthcare systems, including in medical research and at the point of care
- Prototype
Because we are dealing with factors that involve research from various institutions and the dependence on volunteers to participate in research, so we are going to open a non-profit company and at this moment we need a lot of help to develop a business model that is sustainable and viable to be developed in Brazil.
Thus, we believe that with the MIT Solve team we will be able to develop the platform in the best possible way since its inception.
We need help to develop the economic viability plan and start a non-profit organization.
- Business model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
We are presenting the research to the population in a very simple way.
The volunteer will easily visualize how many steps the survey will consist of and how they will participate in the survey.
In addition, they will be able to receive a notification informing them about the scientific article of the research they participated, thus promoting the popularization of scientific knowledge.
Our indicator will be the “Plataforma Brasil”, a website where researchers submit their research for analysis by the Ethics Committee, we hope that in 5 years, at least 70% of the research approved by the Ethics Committees will be published on our platform.
We intend to sponsor academic events, such as congresses and seminars, to promote the platform to potential researchers and we would like to count on the Federal Universities to disseminate the platform to their researchers. We will also have the platform publicized on social medias and in advertisements (radio, tv and internet). Thus, we intend to attract researchers and volunteers to the platform.
We believe that with our platform, surveys will spend less time and less financial resources on recruiting volunteers.
Researches may also become safer as we will ensure that we meet all research ethics resolutions. Volunteers will be able to ethically report irregular researches and when necessary, surveys can be stopped in a matter of seconds.
In addition, research and scientific knowledge will become more popular in society.
One of the requirements for publishing a research on the platform may be for the researcher to ensure that the research will result in an article being published in an open access journal, so it is expected that more journals will become open access (we are still evaluating the viability of this).
With technology we will create a huge database, where we intend to:
- Will create an ASDO Database to pre-select volunteers for research, sending notifications;
- Will connect articles to volunteers;
- Will link the results of an article to select volunteers for further research;
- Will share research results among researchers for the production of new articles based on the same research.
- A new business model or process that relies on technology to be successful
- Big Data
- Software and Mobile Applications
- 3. Good Health and Well-being
- 17. Partnerships for the Goals
- Not registered as any organization
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Fees will are charged per research or by the number of volunteers:
- Pre-select volunteers from the ASDO database;
- Pre-select volunteers from the results of other researches;
- Send notifications to volunteers who have the research profile;
- Send reminder notifications for participation in various stages of the research;
- Randomize volunteers;
- Empower researchers who will apply the research.
