Vivvo CitizenOne
CitizenOne delivers important life outcomes through a trusted digital solution, putting users privacy at the forefront of digital transformation.
Our solution, CitizenOne provides governments and public organizations with a platform for citizen-focused digital transformation. CitizenOne allows a user to privately and securely establish an online identity, assert their online identity using issued credentials, relationships and events that are part of their day to day lives and then use their identity to access services provided by important public sector institutions (e.g. government, education, health) in a privacy-first manner. CitizenOne is built on a foundation of Privacy by Design, managing citizen identification, trust, policy, consent, communication, and the movement of data.
Our solution allows an individual to rely on any available source of information to help verify their identity doing so without divulging private details. Once a user builds their initial identity our solution allows them to easily and conveniently access services where little trust in their identity is required, and then build their trust level as they attempt to access services where greater identity assurance is required. This allows the user to be presented with a service experience that meets their needs, without requiring unnecessary steps while achieving their outcome.
In CitizenOne, each user is represented by a global unique identifier, and as they make claims regarding the authenticity of their identity their “level of assurance” is increased without storing additional data as part of the identity store. Our solution takes a “tokenized approach” to ensure user privacy and allows the user to make the decision what information they wish to share and use to assert their identity or not.
To further protect a user’s privacy our solution informs users of any attribute they must share to further assert their identity (or access a service) and then make an informed decision and choice to consent. CitizenOne allows a user to revoke their consent at any point, allowing them to become “invisible” to services and service providers they have accessed.

Our solution makes complex processes simple for the user and allows a user flexible ways to assert their identity and easily access the services they need. Our solution advances privacy by taking processes that have traditionally thought of privacy as a low priority and makes it the fundamental priority in its design.
Solutions developed by other private sector organizations attempt to gain insights into how users utilize a system by collecting as much data as possible. Our solution refutes this idea and puts the user in the middle of every privacy decision necessary in achieving their outcome.
Our solution takes a data light approach. We never retain data that is confidential. We utilize a tokenized approach to allow an individual to use their identity to access services where high levels of confidence in the user's identity are required and rather than building large data stores, we facilitate the exchange of data to the authoritative system. Additionally:
- Users are always prompted to provide their consent in a simple, highly usable way.
- Users must be able to understand any "approval" they may be granting before sharing their data and we have developed a simple, template system that takes what is normally complex information and distills it to a simple consent format.
- Our solution focuses on ensuring complex processes are delivered in a highly usable step driven way.
- Data in transit and at rest is encrypted.
- Users are provided with a detailed outline of the information that will be shared as part of accepting a service policy and providing consent.
- The user has a unique identifier for every service they consume removing the ability to be cross-referenced.
Our solution relies on open standards and can become part of any identity ecosystem. It is highly flexible making it additive in any application ecosystem.
We provide federation capabilities acting as both an IDP or SP providing many different vectors of information from authoritative sources and support multiple federation protocols.
Our solution relies on existing identity providers as the starting point for enabling private, secure service interactions and allows a user to step up their identity as required by services they choose to access.
Our solution design is heavily focused on the user experience. We take a "progressive disclosure" presenting workflows as required, allowing the user to provide additional information only when necessary. We use simple language and simple UI to step the user through stages to achieve their outcome. Our solution is entirely based on context, it prompts the user only for what is required at each stage of their journey, not overwhelming them with requests for unnecessary information.
Our solution also relies on commonly used services and UI concepts to ensure the experience is familiar to users.
Our platform supports interoperability and is highly configurable and easily integrated into an open standard, multi-solution ecosystem. We provide integration points for content management applications supporting the seamless movement of users.
We can operate as both an IDP or SP to ensure we can leverage an organization's existing identity assets, but also enable the use of new services as part of enabling users to achieve a higher level of assurance. We provide a well-documented set of REST API's for integrating downstream applications with the CitizenOne platform.
CitizenOne is very lightweight and presents well over any internet connection. We use verbal queues in simple language and provide tool tips and user guides to reduce the need for a user to seek support when using the solution. Our solution is designed to prompt user’s "inflow" for any information required to achieve their outcome (rather than sending them to disparate systems all over the place). We prompt users to follow one process flow and supply the data as required to systems involved in delivering the users outcome.
CitizenOne includes capabilities that allow government and public sector organizations to get their processes online fast, without the need for expensive technology projects.
We are aggressively pursuing innovative technologies that will allow for "passwordless" authentication from a mobile device, the ability to store your credentials in the secure enclave on the device and to take those credentials to enroll in non-integrated systems. This decentralized identity technology will change how we identify ourselves and how we share and hold key information about ourselves as users.

Currently, we are working with the Government of Saskatchewan (Canada), the City of Kingston (a city in the Province of Ontario in Canada), eHealth Saskatchewan (Canada) and the Federal Government of Canada. We are commercially delivering our solution to the Government of Saskatchewan and the City of Kingston. We are engaged in proof of concept work with eHealth Saskatchewan and the Federal Government of Canada, demonstrating how our solution can meet their needs.
Our team is led by Jamie Jamieson, a Senior Identity Architect who has worked in the Identity and Access Management field for the past 15 years. Jamie has held positions with Sun Microsystems and Oracle and has worked closely with many industry-leading identity technologies.
Our company has developed an ability to take young technical resources and help them understand the world of identity and privacy through a comprehensive training and mentoring program.
Our company has a solid base of revenue through the commercialization of CitizenOne and through the professional services area of our company. We have been operating successfully for the past 4 years and have doubled our revenue every year since our inception.
Our product has attracted international interest and we are actively working with several US-based partners in pursuing opportunities in the US market.
We are applying to the Mission Billion Challenge to help bring our solution to users all over the world. We provide a unique solution that changes lives and enables better outcomes for everyday people, we want to share our work.
The Mission Billion Challenge can help us advance our work by helping us gain “ear share” with prospective parties, we are a small company and standing out against larger organizations is difficult
Brand equity is a challenge. Having access to competitions such as this help us develop our network and help us find additional "evangelists". We believe we need to expose our solution to more people to help gain the inertia we need to grow.
