Community Eco-Housing for Inclusive and Equitable Accesses
Project: "Community and Eco-Friendly Housing for Developing Countries with Integrating Approaches of Technologies, Innovation, economy and Social solutions"
Introduction
In developing countries such as Cambodia and Elsewhere (Asia Pacific and Sub-African Countries), the ecosystem and community engaged housings are new for the community, and the awareness on that are low. The community is easy to get the vulnerability from climate change in term of flood, typhoon, drought, and the scarcity of local resources including fish resources, and also in term of bio-diversities. The promotion of community and ecosystem housing (ComEco Housing) will promote both community development and eco-system. This project is targeting two village development which one village locates at Coastal Area where eco-housing development combining with Mangrove Plantation as decarbonizing model or carbon storage model, and another village locates at wetland area around Tonle Sap Lake (Great Lake of South East Asia) where wetland tree (can be planted at fresh water in sub-merged condition) as decarbonizing model or carbon storage model. If the results from these two villages are satisfactory, then it will be expanded in to the dried and high land areas where the requirement of plants for decarbonizing models are different. The aims of expansion of these zoning area is to support the model of expansion to other zones in Asia Pacific and Sub-African Countries.
Solutions with Integrating Approaches of Technologies, Innovation, economy and Social solutions toward Community and Ecosystem Housing
- Technologies:
- Promote Eco-Materials in term of Eco-Bricks, Eco-woods, Eco-Tiles, Local Materials and using block house and low energy consumption design concept
- Promote Digitalization with Eco-Housing to local community through digital literacy and enhancing learnings
- Innovation:
- Innovate in the use of local materials as eco-products including for construction materials including eco-bricks and eco-wood
- Innovate on the use of renewable energy from local and community for cooking, lighting and treating and suppling clean water
- Economy:
- Promote local economy through Development a model for centered cares for children and elders peoples including health, learnings, trade and manufacturing enhancements
- Promote circular economy including eco-villages with 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycling Concepts) including the design to be the model of Eco-Tourism Destination
- Social Solutions:
- Increase the accesses to the affordable and comfortable housings which are good for children and elder cares
- Increase the local economy including improving incomes from care economy and also from tourism
- Decrease expenses by depending more on local materials and supplies, and improve climate change resilient.
Contributions towards:
- Community Development: The ComEco Housing is the concept which integrates the sustainable concepts of villages including socio, enviro and economical concepts for housing designs including zoning, relocation or center developments
- Ecosystem: Integration of decarbonizing models including mangrove foresting/planting, or wetland tree planting with other awareness raising and ecosystems will contribute to the ecosystem boost at the village levels
Develop or Restructure Two Villages (One in Coastal and Another one in Fresh Water Wetland) for ComEco Housing (Community and Ecosystem Housings) with the integrated solutions as follows:

Link to Mangrove and Housing Community in Coastal Area
The community include a selected village at costal area and a selected village at wetland area in Cambodia as the first models.
They will benefit in term of community and eco-system enrichments which can contribute to their socio, enviro and economical development including poverty reduction and climate change resilient.
The team compositions including One PhD of Energy Science, One Master of Construction Engineer, One Bachelor of Construction Engineer, One Bachelor of Architecture, and One Bachelor of IT.
The team composition can be integrated more in term of social development background and also from academia.
The solutions are directed to those villages with studies, pilots, supports and also awareness raisings. The approaches can be worked with local community leaders who are driving for changes in order to improve the livelihoods and conserve the eco-system.
The models are really well aligned with Sub-National Development Plan of Cambodia (2021-2030), and the needs of local peoples for better livings
- Enable mass production of inexpensive and low-carbon housing, including changes to design, materials, and construction methods.
- Concept
We have the technical and conceptual expertise's, and we wish to get in term of monetary and technological supports in order to make the pilot model possible, and then scale-up to business for national, and regional levels.
- Legal or Regulatory Matters
Integrating Design including Eco-System Housing Development, and Community Development Models including the integration of Technology, Innovation, Economy and Social Solutions. Rehabilitate, Enhance, Model, and Promoting
Regarding the decarbonizing, Mangrove plantation and protection will be used at coastal area for absorbing the carbon. Also, there is a possible carbon injection into peatland by using CO2 injection pumping into depth from renewable energy such as solar PV. the concept of integrating between community and industry.
In the first year, observe two village models including the test and monitoring of those integrated solutions as above mentions for Community and Ecosystem Housing
Monitor the change progress during the first year compared to the starting point (Baseline). Geographical survey, physical photos, and livelihoods are recorded and measured at the beginning stages, and then the progress at the end of first year will be checked and compared to the initial stage (baseline). Also, the consecutive progresses in the next 5 years.
Impact:
- Local economy of the community from those ecosystem housings is improved including living condition, facility accesses and people ability learning and working for Coastal and Wetland Area in Cambodia
Outcome:
- Local community can contribute to the decarbonization through Mangrove Forest planting, Protecting and Green Material Uses for those housing constructions with Green Design Concept using Green Building Code
Outputs:
- Technological, Innovative, Economical and Social Aspects have been improved
Activities:
- Ecosystem housing designs and community development concept with Technological, Innovative, Economical and Social Aspects have been promoted
Centuries-old Technologies:
- Dig-and Piling: Gain Flat Terrain and Avoid Flood (Convex), Keep for Water Storage (Concave)
- Mangrove or Wetland Tree Planation (Similar to mangrove but grow well for fresh water)
Technics:
- Systematic Sustainable Village Design: Architecture
- Eco-Building: Eco Material Promotion and Building Method and Design
- Digitalization: Re-Education (Digital Literacy)
Engagement and ITs:
- Social Media (e.g Facebook for Promotion or Social Engagement in term of Awareness Raising)
- Digitalization including Financial Technology (e.g ABA Bank Mobile is very popular... for promoting service including Elder and Child Care, and Tourism or Trade)

The consideration of incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusivity into the works:
Diversity: The selected community (Coastal and Wetland) are from the various ethnics and religious groups, also diverse economical backgrounds
Equity: Poor and Vulnerable People can be also benefitted from the project in term of economical, resource access and learning aspects
Inclusivity: Gender, Poor, Vulnerable, Children and Elder Aspects have been integrated for the benefits and livelihood improvement
Socio-Business Model:
Technical Assistance: Support the local Authority and Village Leader to think, to mobilize the resources for ComEco Housing
Sustainability: Improving Local Economy by promoting what they are good at, Exchange Service, the use of Technology, Joint hands on planting mangrove or wetland tree, promote the eco-materials (manufacturing and uses), promote digitalization
Trade and Economy: Improve livelihoods through local trades, local services including eco-tourism promotion. Also children and elder cares for promoting care economy, and learning for promoting prosperity, productivity and poverty reduction.
Life-long learning: Identify the local economy gaps, make them as opportunity, and give the skills to enable growths. Team is oversighted, encouraged, advised, supports in term of construction partners with local authorities or local community leaders.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
Integrating Individual or Community Investment and Development for All Together Growth Frameworks, Inter-dependences, and in harmony with natures and diverse cultural and economical backgrounds
Community Market and Tourism Area which the people can export the local products at their own place, take credits in term of environmental contribution, increase productivity in agriculture including fish farming, flowering garden, other touristic and care services,....
