local energy saving stoves
this solution is to contribute in the fight against global warming. currently South Sudan is experiencing the effects of climate change; since 2021, about 500,000 people in Upper Nile and Jonglie states have been affected by floods; houses, institutions and property are being destroyed by the floods.
globally, floods, droughts and bush fires have become rampant in the world. in 2021, there was a big bush fire outbreak was report in Greece and Italy, frequent floods in Philippines, and frequent drought cases reported in Sub sahara Africa.
the main factors contributing to climate change are the systematic deforestation in Africa and high emission of carbon gas by the industrialized countries.
This solution "local energy saving stove", is mainly aimed at reducing the rate of deforestation through use of small quantity of charcoal or fire wood to generate maximum and long lasting heat for domestic use.
The stoves will be developed using a simple technology; pottery clay and used up metal panes are the main raw materials making the stoves. this technology can be developed for both small and large scale use.
This solution mainly target house holds particularly women and institutions that prepare meals for its clients. The African women have the sole responsibility of doing the daily household duties ranging from child care, meals preparation, fetching water and fire wood. this has overloaded them with much work and unable to fully participate in community programmes. therefore, this solution will liberate them from the burden of demanding huge firewood or charcoal to prepare meals as well as save them time to participate in community development programmes.
Initiative for Community Transformation has committed volunteers rooted in the community and are always innovative in helping the community resolve their day to day challenges/problems. ICT mainly work with women, youth and children who are always deprived in the community.
currently, ICT volunteers are engaged in doing community awareness on effects of climate change in the communities of Morobo county, as well as guiding the community to device mechanisms to respond to climate change.
therefore the local energy saving stoves project will actively involve the community in developing the stoves and establishment of community forests to safe guard the natural tree species from extinction.
- Rapidly decarbonize heating and cooking systems in existing homes while improving efficiency.
- Pilot
Initiative community Transformation currently do not have a skilled personnel to train help in the production of the energy saving stoves; the lack of metal panes to be used for the development of the stove frame; ICT also faces the challenge of transporting locally available raw materials (pottery) clay from the mining/extraction cite to the stove production locations as well as delivering the energy stoves to the selected beneficiaries; lack of enough and quality tree seedlings to establish community forests to help in the fight against deforestation.
- Product / Service Distribution (e.g. expanding client base)
This solution is very effective, affordable and readily available to help the community and the world at large in the fight against excessive carbon emissions. the beneficiaries will also have less time and or money for acquisition of firewood or charcoal for cooking.
therefore, adoption of this technology by large number of the population will help conserve the environment, enable women participate in other community development programmes.
reducing the amount of carbon gas emission in the country; and increasing the environmental conservation.
the number of beneficiaries using energy saving stoves.
the number of community mobilizers trained on development of the energy stoves.
acres of community forests established in the areas of operation
currently the community uses a primitives' methods of generating heat for cooking and other domestic purposes; they most use firewood for cooking or local stoves that consume large amount of charcoal to generate heat for cooking.
Hence; this solution will be help improve the existing technology used in the community by improving the existing technology so that a greener energy is generated by minimum use firewood or charcoal.
this solution aims at improving the existing primitives technology for generating heat.
