CABDA Climate change ecosystem
In Kakamega East have lost many parents through HIV/AID and TB diseases living behind helpless orphans and very vulnerable people in the communities, Scientists discovered that if HIV patients default in treatment they develop chest problem which in turn result to Tuberculosis which does not heal if it takes long in the body causing death in many patients, this made CABDA to source for funding from different Donors to support HIV/AIDS and TB.
During baseline survey most of this victims were complaining about eyes itching, coughing, sneezing allergy and breathing complication caused by smoke inhalation. On school going children, they cannot do their homework well, as they are tasked to collecting firewood everyday which is so hard. They fetch from the forest which is very far from their homes, they use their time for studies to go and look for firewood. Others buy firewood and so spent money they would have used on other basic needs making them survive from hand to mouth. Apart from producing a lot of smoke in the house when cooking on the three stones method that is commonly used in caregiver households, which has increased chest problem to many of them, making them to spend money going to the hospital and in turn has led to more deaths. poor performance for school going children who have no time to look at books has also been witnessed which is a big concern as we see a lot of school drop-outs, it has also lead to deforestation due to cutting down trees to get firewood. This in itself has exposed the soil causing soil erosion and infertile land for food production as top soil is washed away during rainfall leading to increased poverty for orphans left behind.
CABDA is now looking for funds to train more caregivers on fire less basket cooker and solar cooking, the two does not need fuel and fire, the fire less cooker acts as a refrigerator keeping food warm to remain warm and cold to remain cold, it saves time and caregivers have no worry’s even when they are not at home, the children will find ready food. Same as solar cooking where direct sunlight is the one used to cook.
The ripple rocket stove, and Baba moto stove Jikos which need only little firewood and it is smokeless also save time when preparing food, stable and conducive to use, quick cooking as produces a lot of heat and burning as the fire is concentrated , controlled and has two cooking space to allow cooking two meals at same time. No burns while cooking because its stable unlike three stones that keep moving, and it saves on time and money that would otherwise be used to purchase firewood.
In health and Nutrition, the caregivers will be trained on production of organic foods through environmental friendly technics in Bio char and compositing to feed the soil and in turn the soil to feed them longer as it will be fertile and the tillage technics to prevent hard pans and control soil erosion.
provision of greenhouse to caregivers’ groups and train them on how to use this will reduce soil erosion and increase food production
With the ripple rocket stoves and baba moto jikos, there will be a reduction in destruction of forest, thus reduction in deforestation hence promote afforestation that will enable us have enough rains to do farming as well as fresh air circulation. We shall also witness reduction of smoke health related problems like Asthma, as omission will drastically reduce and therefore save on hospital expenses, save time for food preparation, as two cooking points are available, this will create enough time for children to do their studies hence improve in class performance. the other money wasted on buying firewood will be saved and used to mitigate on other emerging issues, that will see households improve the income and living lifestyles of the caregivers and promote good health of the clients. caregivers will also be taught on how to make tree nurseries for indigenous trees so that they can plant in their homes for their use as fire wood also make timber for sell instead of deforestation that increase soil erosion, and decrease the rain, they will plant local vegetables and fruits to improve their health
CABDA will work together with the ministry of social services, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Environment, Housing, Education and provincial and local administration in the spirit of partnership, Networking and collaboration with like minded stakeholders.
CABDA will ensure 200 caregivers trained will disseminate the information to the community and reach other groups of caregivers within the communities with the same information and give report on the same, constructors in colleges and Technical schools share information on good ventilation in houses and during construction to ensure people living in have enough fresh air, fresh flowers encouraged to be planted around the house to provide enough oxygen, let designers design new housing fashion with enough ventilation to let any carbon inside the house go out
Therefore, CABDA has the technology-based solutions that will help the community restore back, sustain and benefit from resilient ecosystems + housing. To that end we are requesting for a total of: $10,000 to assist in implementing this activities and make the dream come true. As they say, why curse darkness when you can light a candle.
Through baseline survey views are collected from the community members
They are involved in strategic planning for the organization and reviewing organization policy,. we shall mobilize them and conduct needs assessment meeting together with them, do sensitization on the activities to be implemented ,time frame and amount funds given and the key stake holders, then share the reports on monthly, share challenges and together have way forward
- Rapidly decarbonize heating and cooking systems in existing homes while improving efficiency.
- Scale
more cry in the community, Children not going to school going to fetch firewood from forest to use for cooking and selling to get basic needs, students crying because of itching eyes because of smoke from stoves and when doing their home work using local lamps with carossine, both children and parents cry for chest problem especially HIV positive and TB population. this has brought to our attention to seek for the ways to reduce smoke and create friendly environment to these population that is suffering.
- Public Relations (e.g. branding/marketing strategy, social and global media)

GOAL: As per sustainable goal 13 Climate action, CABDA want to ensure that by 2025 there is reduction of lungs diseases by 50% a among the communities
Activities
Formation of CIGs – common interest groups among the caregivers
Draw a work plan per per group
Training 50 caregivers on Ripple rocket smokeless Jikos
Training 50 caregivers on fire less basket and solar cooking
Training 50 caregivers on tree nursery planting
Provision of indigenous seeds to 50 caregivers to plant in their own homes
By 2025 there should be a reduction on lung diseases in communities by 5o%
50% people using smoke less Jikos and fireless cookers no more destroying of forest
50% children using solar to do their home studies no more eyes problem
50% improved in class performance
50% people constructed houses with enough ventilation
50% homes having friendly environment trees and flowers
Activity : making of Ripple rocket stove - this is a stove that produce less or no smoke during food preparation
Fire less stove - this system need no fire it continues to cook food and keep it hot until it is used
Baba Moto Jiko need little firewood and little or no smoke experienced
Encourage constructors to build house with enough ventilation
construction of modern cooking stoves that can save time and reduce Health problems for health communities
