PROJECT TÝR
I am trying to solve the problem of not having an arm, and this is a massive problem.185,000 people have an amputation each year. This means that 300 to 500 amputations are performed every day(https://accessprosthetics.com/...). Losing a hand is especially hard, since it really reduces the amount things can do and makes rest much harder. Because of this, many of these people suffer psychological issues. My aim is to reduce these inconveniences and pains.
My solution is a cheap and capable prosthetic hand that is capable of seeing it soundings and change grips. It also contains novel futures like pseudo felling, finger spraying and 3 degrees independent thumb. It increases life quality of disabled people. Furthermore, it uses computer vision, and color sensors.
It serves for people without hands. I hope that it will improve their life by mimic capabilities of abled hand.
Entire purpose of this project is to help people that is why it is well position to succeed.
- Enabling new models for childcare or eldercare that improve affordability, convenience, or community trust.
- Prototype
I thınk with solve i can improve my prosthetic hand faster and make it more efficient ,robust, reliable, compact and simple.
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design, data analysis, etc.)
My solution is wholly open source. Moreover unlike many prosthetics TYR uses computer vison and speech recognition technology.
I just hope to make disabled(people without hand) people's life better. I am currently working on a new version. Hopefully it will be released in next year.
I test parts and software and I measure how close it is to human hand.
Prosthetic hands are really limited and expensive i try to solve both of these problems.
Project TÝR has a raspberry pi4 this raspberry pi4 has a webcam attached to it. With this webcam pi4 sees objects around it and with its AI (opencv and tensorflow lite ) it decides which objects are ahead of prosthetic. I also experimented with voice control and it Works fine with Google voice recognition(I also tried pocket sphinx which doesn’t need internet but Works way worse ) .But it isn’t fully implemented yet. Project TÝR also possesses two muscle/hearth(depending on users budget) sensors which one is attached to persons shoulder and other close to edge of missing limb. (one in the shoulder has secondary function depending on grip for example for mouse movement from shoulder presses second mouse button). Project TÝR also uses a color sensor so that user can manually change mods (I didn’t want to use buttons because person who uses this might not poseses another limb) by pointing sensor to rainbow colored piece of cloth.Project TÝR has an advance wrist system that can make all movements of a regular human wrist, the capability to spray its fingers, which provides better grip at round objects and better typing experience. Furthermore Project TÝR possess an advance thumb finger which provides greater range of freedom than even a normal human thumb. Moreover, thumb index and middle fingers has embedded pressure sensors. According to data pseudo feel the unit operates.
