GREEN GRASS
In a mango gifted area(Ngaoundere), mangoes become a nuisance rather than a blessing at the peak of the mangoes season. The entire town is then covered with mangoes fallen from trees and leafs making the entire town dirty and unpleasing. Worst still, the rotten mangoes and the dirty environment becomes a fertile and most Loved breathing ground for mosquitoes. As such, Living in a mosquito infested area is totally vulnerable to mosquito infected diseases such as malaria. Therefore, the entire population of the town of Ngaoundere in particular and Cameroon in general, suffers severely from malaria infection. Ngaoundere in the Adamawa region has a population of 681,362 inhabitants who are affected by this problem and equally the entire 27 million people of Cameroon.
As a solution to the afore mentioned problem, Green Grass located at the heart of the Adamaoua region in the town of ngaoundere came up with a revolutionary environmental sustainable project. Where the town is regularly cleaned and the fruits harvested off and transformed in to dry fruits which can last for over a year thereby making a seasonal fruit available all year round while keeping the region very clean thus contributing to the fight against malaria and extreme poverty with the dry fruits provided. Worth mentioning is the fact that the seeds from the transformed mangoes would be re-planted in the north thereby giving a helping hand to the eco-system by fighting desertification. Managed by a group of very dynamic and highly motivated young people, green grass is the first company of its kind in the entire territory of Cameroon transforming fresh mangoes into mango chips.
Green grass mainly targets young passionate people who are willing to make a change by their collective efforts. Youths who want to participate in the development of their community and country.
In the transformation of fruits into dry fruits (Mango chips), Green Grass targets mostly youths and children at the university and schools. People who like fruits and love chewable as well.
GREEN GRASS has as objectives:
-to control the spread of Malaria and Cholera
- to contribute to the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger and --to promote environmental sustainability.
-to provide part time jobs and developmental education to young natives of the land
As PRESIDENT/CEO of Green Grass, I have had the opportunity to meet and work with a group of patriotic, hardworking youths in my community. Young and qualified youths who are willing to make things change with collective efforts. So forming a working team with them seems to me to be the best possible decision. A solid team ready to take up the challenge and positively impact their community.
Our team is made up of a health personnel, a graduate from the school of management in Yaoundé, a train and professional marketers etc. with much passion to deliver the goods. This is our strength
- Enabling new models for childcare or eldercare that improve affordability, convenience, or community trust.
- Pilot
Green grass has as mission to fight against the wide spread of malaria and other fly transmitted diseases in the region of Adamaoua in particular and in Cameroon in general, fight against poverty by providing dried fruits to the Cameroonian population and equally provide jobs to both non-literate and literate population of the north in particular and to the Cameroonian people in general. And
Green grass has as vision making the adamauoa region one of the cleanest regions in Cameroon and Cameroon one of the cleanest Country.
Our solution at the moment satisfies only one region of the 10 regions in Cameroon and our desire is to expand the solution to the remaining 9 regions.
- Business model (e.g. product-market fit, strategy & development)
There are a lot of organizations present in Cameroon but unfortunately they are mostly felt in the southern part of the country. The Adamaoua region is somewhat left on its own. We do not expect someone else to come clean our houses for us nor feed our family in our place. Therefore, as a self-sustainable project, Green grass is pioneer. In as much as the government via its officials are trying to work on cleanup programs (HYSACAM), we easily notice the lack of commitment and most especially consistency in their efforts. Therefore, green grass is extremely vital to the population of the Adamaoua region and its services exceptional from that of HYSACAM.
After research we didn’t find any organization which effectively does something similar to what Green grass is providing. Turning a potential hazard into a source of income and fighting among others poverty and hunger.
On the other hand, there is no identifiable company or organization in Cameroon offering a similar product to what Green grass is offering.
GREEN GRASS will impact its community in the following way:
-its provides a sustainable solution to the environment in keeping it very clean and harvesting its fruits without disrupting its production cycle.
-the fruit(mango) seeds collected will be used to plant more tress in the north of Cameroon, an area reputed for its very dry climate and harsh sun thereby fighting desertification.
-the project will provide jobs to the literate and non-literate population of the north. Thereby assist in keeping these children off the streets.
-the project in this way will assist in fighting against Malaria and other fly diseases which is widely spread in this region
- the project will provide self-developmental education to young people in the community under coverage of a program called TRUE LOVE WAITS, regularly organized by the Calvary Baptist Church.
To achieve the above mentioned impact goals;
During the academic year, GREEN GRASS will assist groom young people under the program TRUE LOVE WAITS (the Founder/CEO of the project GREEN
GRASS has been the most regular facilitator in this program for over 4 years). And during the holiday period which coincidentally falls at the peak of the mango season, Green grass will take these youths and many more out on a paid mission to assist in cleaning up the town and getting rid of the fallen mangoes and leafs. Other youths will assist in harvesting the ripe mangoes which would be bought from them.
During the transformation phase, some of these youths will be employed to transform the harvested fruits into dry fruits (mango chips) which will then be packaged and distributed all over the country all year round. Thereby generating funds to keep the project running always.
At the end of the mango season which also marks school resumption, Green grass most have produced a great quantity of mango chips which will be commercialized all over Cameroon and even beyond, the town as well would have been keep clean during a malaria threatening period. And the young people who worked with Green grass will not only have made money to make school resumption easier but most especially a great sense(feeling) of fulfillment knowing their efforts has impacted their society greatly.
Since the solution provided by GREEN GRASS is feasible, we have the following indicators to show the progress of the project toward impact goals:
-Good health and wellbeing: Inasmuch as the environment is kept clean, the rate of multiplication of mosquitoes is greatly reduced causing a significant reduction in the acquisition of malaria parasite thereby improving on the living standard of the population.
-Reduction of the rate of hunger: Since the dried mangoes will be readily available at all times, it will reduce the rate of hunger in the entire region in particular and subsequently, Cameroon as a whole.
