Following George Floyd, retirement rates for officers are up by 45% and those leaving the workforce are up by 18%, and police budgets. Due to public scrutiny, low morale, it is becoming more difficult to retain officers. The data used misses pieces to solve this complex problem: Organizational satisfaction through an intersectional lens and community satisfaction through an intersectional lens. We define intersectional as the multiple points where people are marginalized such as race, gender, and disability.
So, we have a misunderstanding of who is silenced and how because there is no transparency internally. The lack of transparency of unwritten rules, retaliation, and laws that protect unlawful officers create distrust from the community. Confidence in the police has fallen to 48%, the lowest it has ever been. So, to a larger level, there is no public transparency that can reassure the internal procedures of police institutions are thorough and fair.
