Linguana
Leveraging langage technology for the Learning and promotion of African Languages.
Linguana is an African language education and translation platform which offers an opportunity for Africans to reconnect to their cultural origins by learning their local languages, it is also an opportunity for marketers to translate their content in a language the nationals understand best.
At Linguana we leverage technolgies such as AI, NLP, mobile and web app, 2D design to produce apps and cartoons through which our users can translate content from one language to another and educate themselves.
Our solution is innovative on the following points:
1. Our courses are short and fast.
Courses that only take a few minutes to complete. In addition, they are grouped by subject, making it easier to remember new words as they are related to each other.
2. Cartoons are closer to children and help them quickly identify with actors and have fun learning.
3. Cartoons also bring parents and children together around the content they can discuss.
4. We have added elements of gamification: We keep learners motivated to complete the course through achievements and rankings.
5. We imitate real conversations:
Our chatbot allows our users to practice their conversational skills and prepare for real-life situations.
In Cameroon alone many local companies miss out on approximately 28.8% of the population, this is due to difficulties they face in marketing their products to those locals who neither understand English or french.
Also many Cameroonian parents want to teach their children their mother tongue, Cameroonians inside and outside the country want to reconnect to their roots, and the government also is promoting the use of national languages (dialects). But it lacks an efficient and effective digital system to document and facilitate the process of learning and mastering the mother tongue. The Linguana apps will greatly help solve these problems.
Also, Cameroon has a good number of national language learning centres but nevertheless, the teaching is not efficient because the resource persons who are able to teach is quite low and also learners face difficulties aligning with he set schedule but our platform will provide always available tools that can be used anywhere and at anytime provided the party has a phone and internet.
These language centres will also be able to use our software as a learning aid when implementing their blended learning strategy.
And of course, this model can be expanded across Africa as many African countries face this same challenge.
.
Starting in Cameroon, our solution will serve the over 28.8% of the population who are underserved due to language barriers.
Linguana will also permit marketers who want to market their product and services to reach a wider audience by communicating in a language they understand best.
Also Language centres will really benefit greatly from our app, as this will help them solve the problem of scarcity in qualified language instructors because our platform will provide them with several reusable and readily available learning resources.
NGOs like SIL who translate regious contents to local languages can make good use of our translation platform to ease their tasks.
Also individuals willing to learn a local language can easily use our platform to go about this. Thanks to our gamified learning experience which adapts to each learner's level, they will have a great time.
We look forward in the next five years to serve the entire African population.
I have been at the Cameroon's ministry of culture , i and my team had an audience with the director of cultural heritage, he gave files and statistics that help us refine our solution.
Also i have been at SIL ( a faith based international NGO, who's main goal is to translate religious texts to local languages), during our discussion with the technical director of the organisation, he greatly appreciated our project and gave us some recommendations which helping us improve on our solution.
Furthermore Linguana emarged winner of the Cameroon ICT innovation challenge, second position, organised by the ministry of post and telecommunication.
