Sex Ed APP
We propose a mobile application that allows an optimal learning about sexual education, both independently and through educational institutions.
Our solution is the creation of an app that promotes sexual education and training so that teenagers are not olny aware of STD's but also how to use contraceptive methods effectively and where to obtein these in order to reduce the likelihood of teenage pregnancy.
In addition, through this educational app we will enable a contact section withprofessional doctors in the sexual area in case the users want to have any consultation related to pregnancy, STD's and contraceptives.
Beign more detailed the application will have the following sections:
- Educational Section: Here we will see all the STD's, how to prevent and treat them.We will also see which are all the contraceptives methods, how to use them and where to get them.
- Doctors Section: Here we will have a database of all the doctors, professionals in the sexual area where the users will be able to contact the doctors in case they need to make an appointment.
Due to the lack of comprehensive sexuality education in educational institutions, the Dominican Republic is among the countries in the region with the highest number of teenge pregnancies. When adolescents become mothers at such an early age brings several problems such as dropping out of school and the constant rejection from the jobs they apply for.In the year 2019 only 27,734 teen births were registered which represents 23.5% of the total number of births registered in the country (117,882 births). The 46.1% of young pregnant women in the Dominican Republic live in a condition of poverty According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the impact of adolescent pregnancies and early motherhood in the country affects the economy in such a way that approximately 3,652 million of Dominican pesos are spent, equivalent to 0.09% of the Gross Domestic Product.
This solution will work for teenagers in the Dominican Republic.Having an efficient sexual education will allow them to know their body and how it works. They will be aware of the dangers STD's to protect themselves against them through the different methods of sexual protection. They will have access to an infinite number of files, diagrams, news and even a menstrual cycle calendar.
Our team has been in close proximity with different pregnant girls and has been able to see what they have to go through due to discrimination and how they leave their studies and dreams behind. We have participated in volunteering to help pregnant women with monetary aid.

Our technological solution is a mobile application. This application has the function to educate sexually. In it the teenagers and the teachers will have a lot of news about sexuality, diagrams, pdfs, books, videos, audios and a menstrual calendar for girls.It will be updated weekly with new information so that they can always be aware of sexual topics that allow them to know their body and protect themselves from any STDs and prevent teenage pregnancy.

The impact we achieve will be far-reaching. Through our application we will considerably decrease pregnancies in teenage girls. We will achieve this by promoting our application in as many schools as possible.
Our goal is quality education, we measure our progress by analizing how many people feel impacted by our project. When we add value to people, we grow and that is very important.
- One of the most difficult barriers is that in the Dominican Republic sexual education is a topic that is not often discussed and sometimes when it is talked about it is not well seen.
- As for the economic barrier, we think that we can get several donations to our project in different ways by making it known in different schools.

In order to understand those we want to help, we have participated in volunteer work that allows us to understand more about the problems faced by these people we want to help, and we have realized that early pregnancy is one of the main problems in our country, the Dominican Republic. Our team has a fairly organized agenda at the time of providing solutions, we take into account the environment in which the situation occurs, and we analyze the best options in order to proceed to make a positive contribution to the young adolescents of the country.
The NGO, Beats Provida RD. In this NGO we are aware of adolescent women to offer our help in different cases and to be able to help them, either by recommending a place for psychological help or by helping them monetarily in whatever way we can.

This award is a great motivation to go further. Our small island has many problems and our goal has always been to contribute to our country as much as we can, because we understand that small steps can achieve great things. Winning this award would be something very significant, something that would give us more visibility.
We would always like to help the new generations to educate themselves, follow their dreams and always protect themselves.
