E-Hospital

E-hospital is an app that will be able to electronically connect patients to their doctors from where they are. Patients will be able to book appointments as well.

My solution is a mobile app that will electronically connect patients to their doctors. Patients will be able to login their details and they will be attended by a doctor from that specific hospital. Patients can even book appointments with doctors if there is need for a physical meeting. Patients who need to have surgery can book their spot and pay for it as well. A receipt will then be sent to them for authenticity. They will only go on the day of the surgery and have their surgery done. This app will ease the traffic found in hospitals and therefore even play a role towards the containment of the Covid Virus. Swift programming language and Java will be used.

The major problem am solving using this technology is the heavy traffic in hospitals. This is a problem that many people face daily. With the Covid virus being here with us, most people as afraid to go to congested areas and therefore this app will solve that problem. People are forced to go for several visits in the hospital before they are finally attended. This even leads to some extra costs that come along.

This solution will serve everyone who falls I’ll or has a neighbor who is ill. The app will be compatible in both android and IOS devices. For those patients who have no access to smart phones, further developments will be done where they can just use an USSD code to still access this service.This will directly impact the lives of very many people and help reduce the congestion in hospitals.

To finally come to this solution, I have done research in my local hospital and saw the need for this. The hospital was congested despite having the Covid virus with us. This therefore posses more danger to the patients and even risking their relatives and other members of the public. I have also engaged some people who have also faced the problem. I personally have faced the problem. I almost lost a relative who had the need for an urgent surgery but the hospitals nearby were congested and had could not access other hospitals because of lack of their contacts. We had to move to those areas and ended up spending a lot of money on the fare.

My product is at the concept stage. I have the full idea in mind and I think once given the chance to actualize it, it will be able to make a great impact in the society and the world in general.

This solution involves the creation of an app. The bigger percentage of the software will be made up using Swift programming language and Java. The app will have details of as many hospitals as possible that use technology and the services that they provide. All the information about the hospitals will be provided by the government through the ministry of health. Money transaction services for things like paying of hospital bills will also be available through the cooperation of money transaction agencies like Safaricom, Mpesa in Kenya. The charges of this service will be agreed upon at a latter stage of this product.

We will also work with the communication companies like Safaricom to help us get the USSD code for the users who do not have access to smartphones. The app will be available in both play store and AppStore.

Despite this solution being an idea at the moment, I prospect that it will be able to serve more than 50,000 people within the first year. I will collaborate with already existing companies to help in the marketing so that the general public is aware of the service and how important it is to them. This will even create job opportunities for the people who will be monitoring the app to make sure the clients get quality service that are authentic enough.

I plan to make an immediate impact in the health department using this app. More patients will be able to get medical services from the comfort of their homes and only go for physical sessions when there is a need to under doctors instructions. I will work closely with already established companies that make apps for the purpose of professionalism and making sure that my clients get the best of services at all times.

I will measure my progress by seeing how many people have downloaded the app after some time. I will also have a surveillance team that will take records from hospitals of how many people are using the service. This will  notify my team where to improve and whether to modify some things.

My current barriers for completion of this project include financial constraints. I will need some cash to purchase specific programming packages. I will also need funding for the payment of the company that will help me in coming up with the app. I also have technical challenges because I don’t have the professional knowledge of making apps therefore I will rely on other experienced developers to help me in the process. Since this is a new invention, cash will be needed for marketing so that people become aware of what the service is and even how to use it. Those are some of the barriers that I might experience in the process.

My team at the moment is just comprised of my advisor and myself. More people will be brought on board as we develop to further stages of this solution. My advisor is someone who has good experience on matters ICT and he has worked with different companies before joining our school. He always pushes me to be very creative and he is very supportive to ensure the ideas I have one day come to actualization. He is actually the one who informed me about this amazing opportunity and we are here to make the difference that the world needs to make it a better place to live in.

At this stage of the solution, we are yet to partner with any other organizations. However, as mentioned earlier, we will partner with different organizations to make sure we have a successful and very effective product.

I am not a girl so I therefore don’t qualify for this prize.

I believe am qualified for that prize because my idea solves a major health challenge. This solution aims to accelerate healthcare access and health outcomes. This solution also helps control the spread of Corona Virus in hospitals due to congestion.

Once I win this prize, it will help me finish my project and even think of more creative ways in which I will modify the service so as to serve this generation and even other coming generations after we have left.
