Woodiee

One-line solution summary.

Woodiee is a push notification web service that sends a word of the day notification along with the meaning of the word and an example sentence to subscribed users.

What is your solution?

Woodiee notifies users of a new English word with its meaning and an example sentence every day at 12:00 PM IST. Woodiee works on the cloud. It uses the Python programming language for the backend, Google Firebase for its website and subscription process, pythonanywhere for hosting and running the python script, and notify.run for sending notifications.

What specific problem are you trying to solve?

I feel that non-native English speakers lack vocabulary skills while communicating in English. I've personally experienced this problem. At times, I come across people who use certain words that I don't understand. I want to improve my vocabulary, I want to learn a new English word every day. But, I can't go and pick up a dictionary to look for a new word every day, it's exhausting and I'll probably give up after a couple of days. I need something better, something more flexible and productive. I believe all non-native English speakers have this problem which is around 743 million people. I asked a couple of my friends and family to use Woodiee for a week and give me feedback. I was astonished by the response. Woodiee helped them improve their vocabulary skills. Right now everyone at my high school has subscribed to Woodiee, and I'm helping them improve their vocabulary skills and making a positive impact in my community. I received the Young Entrepreneur Award from the Indian Achievers' Forum for Woodiee.

Who does your solution serve? In what ways will the solution impact their lives?

Woodiee serves each and every person who is willing to learn and grow despite their age, ethnicity, gender, belief, and values. Anyone who wants to improve vocabulary skills can subscribe to Woodiee. Woodiee's target population is non-native English speakers.

What steps have you taken to understand the needs of the population you want to serve?

Yes, I have researched with potential users for months in the development of Woodiee. In October 2021 I launched Woodiee and made it available online so that everyone can use it. I was always open to feedback and still am for the betterment of my service.

Explain why you selected this stage of development for your solution—in other words, what have you accomplished to date?

Right now Woodiee is fully functional, has early users, and is growing rapidly. People at my high school, neighborhood, city, and a few in other countries are using Woodiee which sums up to around 200+ users.
