Breathing Cart
Vegetable Cart for Indian Street Vendors which enhances their lifestyle, hygiene, and selling unplucked hydroponics plants acts as a catalyst and creates alternate-job opportunities for the marginalized, possibly the vendor's spouse.
This Cart increases the shelf life and freshness of the produce by Insulation and Damp Compartments.
Hydroponics will allow consumers to buy fresh Growing plants and allow the consumer to grow them in their house afterward. The hydroponic cups will be biodegradable which will be recycled paper and sawdust which creates job opportunities for unemployed and marginalized people most likely for the vendor’s spouse, so very minimal water is required.
Damp and moisture Compartment - Some vegetables require moisture to stay fresh most vendors regularly sprinkle the surface with water instead. This compartment will have an ultrasonic mist humidifier made of plastic bottles, Ultrasonic Mist Maker, etc. which can be made for just 10 dollars and can run over 10 hours daily
The dry and dark compartment - which will be a low-cost transparent grid container with double insulating panes which reduce heat transfer while giving full visibility to buyers.
There’s a seat on the side of the cart with holes for airflow and comfortability. So they can sit comfortably which eliminates germs from the footpath and is aesthetically pleasing.
The Cart increases profitability and creates job opportunities for their spouses and enhances the hygine and lifestyle of the Vendor
Most of the vegetable street vendors in India sell their produce in open places like the streets where the vegetables get contaminated due to unhygienic and unsanitized areas which can lead to diseases. Most of the time they also don’t have a place to sit so their only alternative is to sit on the ground and they are unable to sell their produce profitably. There are estimated to be around 10 Million Indian street vendors and more than a billion street merchants across the globe with varying incomes and fields for what they are selling.
The audience for the carts is the Indian street vendors which are estimated to be 10 Million street vendors and represent a very important constituent of the Indian urban informal economy. The Cart increases profitability, hygiene, and comfortability, hydroponics creates alternate job Opportunities for the housewives/unemployed who are mostly part of the marginalized community The total cost is estimated to be around INR. 4000 in relevance to The Indian PM Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme with around 40% for the cart. The scheme facilitate working capital loan up to INR 10,000.
I have visited several street vendor marketplaces from metropolitan areas (In India most street vendors are mostly found selling under the train station beside the open roadsides) to rural areas to observe and understand them.
- Improving financial and economic opportunities for all (Economic Prosperity)
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model
I designed and developed a prototype and currently measuring different outcome parameters to move it to the field level trial. The project has also been selected by the National Innovation Foundation of India, the Department of Science and Technology, India, and funded INR 10,000 for the first-level prototype development.
- A new use of an existing technology (e.g. application to a new problem or in a new location)
Hydrophonic leafy vegetable inside a street vendor cart like a mini greenhouse on the Street. Different buyers, users including vendors, and farmers will be connected through a centralized IT system, to buy and as well as supply chain information. The system will generate information like top-selling vegetables, vendor analytics through a subscription model, and information and updates.
- Other
At present, my solution is at the prototype stage and since it has been selected by the Department of Science and Technology to further refine the concept. The government also helps in creating and distributing it. I am hoping to reach around 200 in India by next year by my own and with the help of the government reach 1-2 thousand Vegetable Street Vendors
By next year i hope no diseases or germs contaminate the Vegetables , So its safer for people and people start hydrophonically growing plants at home with the help of the cart.Vegetable Vendors can be comforatable and sell profitibily
I also hope to help unemployed or margnilized people by the making of the Hydrophonics cups or as an alternate-job
I will provide the vendors with a unique id which will have all the information about the Cart, Vendor, updates, etc. and they can access it all from their phone Hydroponics will act as a Connection between the vendor and the Producer through an IT System
Most producers would cut the entire plant with the root but My cart is based on the idea that the plats would be growing all the time which would also help with climate change . So My major barrier is to get the plants with the roots
I have done courses on design thinking , centrality and on Artifacts and designing has been a hobby since i was Child So My goal is just to design and conceptualize the idea and then hand over the design to a well-established enterprise or government agency to carry forward the concept. I will keep it as a open design website with a easy making process so that the vendors can make the cart themswlves aswell, and people can donate so help
No partner yet. But I would like sell the Cart where all the street vendors come to get their produce which is called a sabji mandi in India which is the Central place where all vegetable vendors come to get their Produce

The Cart increases the lifestyle of the Street vendors and reduces chances of diseses like tuberculosis etc. since many people tend to cough on the road sides and thats where most vendors sit so many diseses are spread . Hydrophonic cups creates alternate-job opportunuites for marginalized and unemployed People most likely the Vendors Spouse I will provide them the steps and desigh in order to make the biodegradeable hydrphonic Cups it keeps the plant Moist so very minimal water is required . Also minimal replanting would be required which would also help climate change . With the prize I would like to make demo Carts so that people who want to Volunteer can spread the idea and Change
- Yes
40 Percent of 10 Million of the Street Vendors in India are female . This Cart will enhance their lifestyle reduce chances of diseses they are usually low income since their Produce gets perished but this crt elimintes this . Hydrophonic cups creates alternate-job opportunuites for marginalized and unemployed People and women who are struggling to provide to their Family this would be an ideal job since it can be done from home I will provide them the steps and desigh in order to make the biodegradeable hydrphonic Cups it keeps the plant Moist so very minimal water is required . Also minimal replanting would be required which would also help climate change . With the prize I would like to make demo Carts so that people who want to Volunteer can spread the idea and Change
