A platform for school violence’s victims to communicate with others and get solutions to get rid of school violence.

Our solution is basically providing a mini-program for the victims of school bullying in order to both comfort them and give them a platform to express themselves. Our mini-program mainly matches the volunteer and the victim into a one-to-one chat room, and thus builds a good relationship between them. Therefore, the circumstance of the victim could be solved. In this process, we build our mini-program in a Chinese popular social app called WeChat since the majority of Chinese people use it. We create our mini-app with the technology of programming.

School bullying has always been an important but controversial problem. On one side, it can ruin a student’s life. However, on the other side, no matter if it’s for whether the victim or school, they always keep school bullying as notoriety without saying it out. Ever since we found out that one of the students from our grade has been severely alienated by other students and he does feel desperate from the discrimination, we recognized that school bullying is a serious problem that may also happen around us. This is how we started our research. Surprisingly, it is found that not only in our school. There are much more cases of school bullying in some schools that are around us. Research from Han 2017 also shows that there are astonishingly 1 out of 10 students suffering from school bullying in Beijing. And 26% of the victims are severely harmed throughout their subsequent life. This is where we thought that our community is still lacking. In fact, it was emphasized more not to bully other people in our community. However, the government didn’t do properly of telling the victim how to stand out from the shadow. And that causes the common cases of school bullying harming students’ lives.

Our program mainly serves people who are suffering from school violence and have no place to talk about it, as well as volunteers who want to help others and contribute to the fight against school violence. Many victims have no way to seek help and understanding because of the school's unwillingness to expose the scandal, the teachers' fear of being implicated in their inaction, and the parents' lack of understanding of traditional ideas. As a result, they suffer from serious mental illnesses. Our product provides an acceptable help and relieving platform for these victims. Through our one-on-one communication, the volunteers will be responsible for their victims of the situations. When volunteers patiently communicating with the victims, they will also find the right solution which let the victims no longer affected by school violence and can have a happy school life.

We did several steps to find the actual need for our objects. First of all, we made a questionnaire and let the victim answer anonymously. In the questionnaire, we specifically ask about their status quo, the willingness of sharing their experience with other people, and the reason. From doing this, we can have a better understanding of their need and correct our original assumptions. Secondly, we did some research online to check out the situation of similar apps. We’ve looked up some organizations such as the life-saving hotline in Shanghai. We then analyze whether what can be improved from other types of applications. What’s more, we made a plan about what our objects specifically need. 

First of all, we consider and put in a lot of ideas about how to solve the problem. However, with a financial restriction, we didn’t have the capability to complete it. Fortunately, we made a prototype that comprehensively contains all of our details.

Generally, we use a social app called WeChat to achieve our aim. In Wechat, there are thousands of mini-program that the users can use. And because of the huge popularity and usage of our product, we believe that most of the problem will be eliminated. The technology has already existed. And thus building a mini-program is much more convenient for our team to achieve our aims. The core power that maintains the application is how we organize our mini-program.

In our solution, we first planned to cover the schools in our community. Then, as our project becomes bigger and bigger, we will eventually extent our scale. According to our specific research, each school will contain about 33-7 cases. And thus the number of the people who are using this application will be around 100 or so.

Even though we are focusing on a small community right now, our project has long-term planning. We are planning to use the visitor count of our application and the ratio of the number of users who really feel benefited after using the software compared to all the users to measure our progress toward our impact goals, the data should not deceive. Our main goal is to ensure the healthy mindset of the people who have been bullied and educate the bullies currently in Beijing, China. Then, as our project becomes bigger and bigger, we will eventually extent our scale. In a future perspective, we will even reach to link with more and more organizations.

Financial: We don't have a financial hurdle at the moment. The concept of our design is that there will be volunteers to help enlighten those who are bullied, so in fact, there is not much financial limitation in manpower. If we can really make it bigger, I believe that maintenance cost of the system will become the main expense when the number of users increases.

Cultural: Most people in China have an eclectic concept, and many people who are bullied may choose to suffer silently unless they reach the limit. Also, many people advocate the idea that more is worse than less, and there may not be too many volunteers who will really lend a helping hand if they do not really understand the seriousness of school violence. In addition, the online world is very chaotic and murk. Many netizens with unscrupulous minds are likely to adhere to the theory of victim guilt. These are cultural barriers that we do not want to encounter but cannot avoid, larger social problems that have yet to be solved.
