Refugee welfare is our responsibility 

Mordern agriculture through passion fruit growing  on abar style plantation.  We do train refugees to intercrop passion fruits on bars rotating up for commercial purposes with other crops down for food and basic use. Using the modern irrigation scheme of one bottle for a fruit that enables agricultural produce through out the year.

The poor socio-economic status of living which is leading to increased poverty, high school dropout and unemployment among the refugees in Uganda today.

A Hand for a Refugee is a registered community-based organisation within Kikuube District local government at the district level.
A HAND FOR A REFUGEE is currently operating in Kyangwali Refugee settlement, Kikuube district, Western Uganda.It was founded in January of 2020 by a team of three youths committed to create a positive impact on their communities in terms of improved welfare and social-economic development, through training and empowering refugees with modern agricultural skills by focusing on growing crops with competitive market prices like passion fruits and vegetables. We then help refugees sell their produce at market at much better prices to support their livelihood.

We carried out a research about the problem and tested the solutions we I dentified and realised mordern  agriculture out ways.  We found out that over the 13000 students in the primary schools in the camp only 10% can access secondary school leaving the other drop out and making more engage in basic agriculture to grow food that can run their homes. This style of unemployment was bringing in increased poverty rates which is highly causing poor socio-economic living statuses of refugees. Therefore since agriculture is the backbone economic activities Uganda and most refugees are allocated to small pieces of land while in the country, we identified passion fruit grows one way that can increase their incomes because it yields a lot, can be grown on small pieces of land, and if grown with modern agricultural styles, it can help increase Refugee income to 60%.

We are holding an experimental farm which sofarhas 1000 seedlings being grown and tested thereafter products to two buyers which has created a change in the income rates like from 1 dolla earnings to 1.8 USD.

Mostly  we are using machines as advancement that includes modern irrigation.

Currently we are having 85 beneficiaries and next year wearelooking at 350 people directly.

Equipping 150 refugees with skills in the next 6 months. Increasing 60% sales per month for this year. This is to be done through day to day check up of the monthly working plan. 

Recruitment of 80 farmers. The organisation plans to recruit more beneficiaries in the system in January 2022 
The project has planned to buy an irrigation machine so as to supply constant water in the organisation farm especially during the dry season which is expected to be in January 2022.9
Extending more support to the identified potential large farmers of passion fruits. The project has agreed to extend more support to farmers with promising passion fruit gardens so as to motivate other farmers to work hard. The supports are informed of fertilizers, chemicals for spraying, poles and any other relevant support needed. 

Decision making

We have tried to advocate for inclusivity and at least give everyone on the board room for decision making which can be a challenge because we lack a single person that can make a conclusive decision.
We have seen it important as the board to give more authority to our Executive Director Safali Libia during decision making.  Security at our farm Our experimental farm is located at Kilima village in zone A Kyangwali refugee settlement where we have planted our passion fruit plantation currently making 1.3 acres. This farm however has faced a problem of insecurity since the land is located some distance from the homes of our member farmers. This challenge is being planned to be sorted by having a security guard of the farm however we still lack finance to implement this plan as according to our 2021-2022 work plan.Time balance.

Transportation. 
Based on the current situation of covid-19, transportation of team members as well as our goods and services have also been a problem limiting us at leading to escalating transport costs on our budget.
