Magenta Programmers
To inspire and empower young women to develop an interest in programming and give them a better future.
We run publicly accessible workshops and camps at local libraries in various locations to provide learning opportunities to many young girls. We will also conduct coding competitions to give girls a chance to show their knowledge and interest in coding. By inspiring an interest in technology in our students, we are helping close the gender gap.
We want more women in stem and to close the gender gap in technology.
Our solution serves young girls who are in middle school. We know that differs from state to state so to be more specific young girls that are in grades 5-8. When you go to coed programs in the subject of computer science there are more boys than girls. We want there to be more opportunities for girls. This solution addresses this need because this is a program for girls only. They will learn the basics from us and if they gain the interest they can start attended more complicated workshops. It will make them see that they have the possibilities to go into a career that is occupied by men.
We have attended many workshops and events that have the same goal of bringing technology to young women.
- Improving learning opportunities and outcomes for learners across their lifetimes, from early childhood on (Learning)
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community
Magenta Programmers is at a pilot stage because we have already had 4 coding workshops online hosted by the nearby Easttown Library.
- A new project or business that relies on technology to be successful
Currently, we do not have a technology that is powering our system, but we have taught many concepts like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Simulations, etc.
- Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
- Other
- United States
Our solution currently serves 30 people with the 4 workshops we have conducted so far. And in a year we plan to serve 500 with our workshops and camps. The 500 people that we will serve will gain a good understanding of the basics of computer science. And the 30 people that we have already served have liked our workshops and gave us feedback to improve their understanding on what we are teaching. These workshops will help all the people that are attending to feel comfortable will fixing problems in their code as well as understand how to code something very simple.
We hope to see more and more girls taking computer science courses in high school, majoring in computer science in college, and at some point, more women working in the field of computer science.
We are measuring our progress by asking the girls that come to our workshops to give us feedback on how we did in the class. The way we do this is we created a Microsoft form with question about our class and if they want to they can fill it out. We encourage everyone how comes to fill out the form because we want to make sure that understand what we are teaching them. We have done this in our workshops so far and people have responded and we work every time to put their feedback into consideration.
As we do not make any profit, we are currently financially unable to apply for a 501c3 non-profit status.
We have attended many coding and stem workshops in the past through local libraries, at school, and with stem companies. As we are still students we can see firsthand what works and implement that into our programs at Magenta Programmers. As women, we have seen the gender gap in many programs we have attended and hope to close the gender gap with our programs.
We are not currently partnering with any organizations. But in the future we are hoping to partner up with organizations and grow our company.
- Yes
We are trying to change the representation of women in the field of technology. If we are granted this prize we will use it to spread our initiative to different states and countries. We will start chapters in different areas and conduct programs and competitions.

Our solution is also focused on opening up more job opportunities for women and improving their quality of life. If granted this prize, we will use it to reach out to more girls and young women.
