SP-Training
Through inclusion and technology, we want to promote exercise in people with disabilities through the use of an application.
By creating the application SP- Training, the aim is to promote physical activity and/or exercise in an inclusive way through physical conditioning focused on persons in a disability condition, specifically those with spinal cord injury (SCI).This will work remotely with a series of pre-established guidelines based on scientific evidence and our experience as future physiotherapists, so that they allow us to develop and execute exercises according to the level of injury presented. From this the population will be able to improve their life habits in healthier ones improving their health and quality of life. It is expected that to obtain the application it will be free of charge and that it will be available for use without an internet connection for greater accessibility.
According to the general census of the department of Valle del Cauca has a prevalence of 6.7% (308 762) of people with disabilities, the third with more disability (8.76%), where the type of physical disability is the most common with 18% and is related to mobility and the activity that is most difficult is walking.
It seeks to meet the needs of the disabled population by finding a problem from the social framework, which requires special attention, whether it is because of the difficulty or inability to join certain activities that take place in your environment, such as those with physical disabilities, hence the importance of establishing a specialized training program to improve the quality of life through the inclusion and use of technology. Where it is expected to decrease the sedentarism caused by lack of exercise in people with physical disability due to SCI; this causes in the individual a series of changes at the morphological and physiological level that have a direct impact on their health, such as the increase in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. It is found that in this type of population with disabilities the lowest levels are in relation to the execution of physical activity, as a result of the barriers that exist in both disinformation and social stigmas. Exercise improves strength and contributes directly to the realization of daily life activities (DVA) and the functional capacity of the individual, providing a protective factor against the suffering of diseases and injuries.
According to Roberta Gaspar et al., spinal cord injury is a health condition that is associated with permanent disability and reduced life expectancy. The injury of this structure produces sensory, motor and autonomic dysfunction therefore affects the physical, psychological and social well-being; the reduction of the level of physical activity, the systemic alterations and the different barriers faced by this population (mobility, lower economic independence, low economic income, low social stratum, poor accessibility in the physical, technological and attitudinal environment of the population, ignorance about how to exercise, lack of motivation and high costs of exercise programs) encourage a sedentary lifestyle and increase the risk of comorbidities secondary to injury.
This project will initially have an impact on people with physical disabilities living in the Valle del Cauca region and its surroundings, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle in order to prevent psychomotor problems and chronic non-communicable diseases that interfere with the physical, social, psychological and personal performance of this population. Exercise will contribute to the improvement of quality of life and bodily functions; on the other hand, compliance with article 30 of Law 1346, 2009, which frames the right to recreation and sport to people with disabilities, will be guaranteed and reinforced, implementing inclusive and equitable programs; with the development of this application seeks to promote a healthy lifestyle, reducing the barriers already mentioned.
To search for literature and research scientific articles about interventions on physical exercise and physical activity in people with spinal cord injury, where they establish a series of guidelines and recommendations for exercise, however they are not yet conclusive; that is why based on the international classification of functioning, disability and health, it is intended to create with the use of technology an application that allows people with spinal cord injury to have an active lifestyle and without barriers.
On another matter, being immersed in a career that is based on the study of human body movement offering a therapeutic and rehabilitation treatment for the prevention of the disease, we have been able to appreciate the needs of this population and understand much more deeply the desire to overcome the present barriers and be able to lead a much more active life; in the same way, being in the field of activity and adapted sport, it has been possible to corroborate the positive effects that exercise has on this population and how productive it can be on the person. It should be noted that it is a concept in which you are hiking, however we have experienced closely how this population is addressed.
- Improving healthcare access and health outcomes; and reducing and ultimately eliminating health disparities (Health)
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
The stage in which our project is is that of a concept since it is an idea or assumption that you want to reach and like everything, it needs several phases of research so that it can be developed in the best way, we have currently searched databases and books in population style to know more about the problem.
- A new use of an existing technology (e.g. application to a new problem or in a new location)
In the last decade the use of technologies such as mobile telephony in Latin America has had a growing boom. For the development of the application is proposed the "methodology for the development of mobile applications, MDAM" methodology that was used for the creation of a service (mHealth) which is defined as the union of mobile computing and communication technologies for health care integrating the benefits of mobility and ubiquity, typical of mobile systems, to traditional health care treatments, trying to bring health care to the people.
Phases:
Analysis: the analysis of the requests or requirements of the people for whom the application is made is carried out.
Design: The objective is to capture the idea of the solution through diagrams or schemes to consider the best alternaztive by integrating the technical, functional, economic and social aspects.
Development: The objective of this phase is to translate the design into a software.
Performance tests: The objective in this phase is to verify the operation of the application in different scenarios and conditions.
Delivery: attended to all the requirements of the people and developed the application proceeds to the delivery of the executable, the source code, the documentation and the manual of the system.
- Software and Mobile Applications
- Colombia
Currently it does not serve any type of population because it is conceived from a concept, however it is expected to be able to serve around 3000 to 4000 people with physical disabilities who have spinal cord injury during the first year, this through advertising on social networks, after this time it is expected to increase the figures of use in the target population expanding throughout the country (Colombia).
Through the use of this app we want to provide technological accessibility to people who have physical disabilities due to spinal cord trauma; taking into account the framework of the ICF(International classification of functioning, disability and health) in which the individual is understood as a whole from the concept of health that addresses components of structure, function, deficiencies, activity and participation, therefore their interactions will be addressed in a comprehensive manner.
From the solution that is proposed, it is expected:
By the support of a software programmer to create the prototype of the application in a structured way and finally develop it for acquisition in mobile stores.
Get to know the application by promoting through social networks such as facebook, twitter and instagram.
Provide access to this software in an inclusive way to people with physical disabilities due to spinal cord injury regardless of their social status and have a record of those who enter it to know if the target number of users was reached (3000 to 4000).
Create a physical conditioning program adapted to people with spinal cord injury, which will be carried out based on scientific evidence and our experience, and so when it is structured and proven to reach the population to favor greater functional independence and improve the quality of life of people with disabilities who use the application.
Create the prototype of the application in a structured way and finally develop it for acquisition in mobile stores.
Obtain funding for the development of the application.
Test app performance and performance tests.
Monitoring the number of app downloads.
Get to know the application by promoting through social networks such as facebook, twitter and instagram.
Measure impact through a survey to learn how you found out about the app
Point the experience provided by the app.
Provide access to this software in an inclusive way to people with physical disabilities due to spinal cord injury
Have statistics and have a record of the people who enter the application to know if the target number of users (3000 to 4000) was reached as well as social status.
Create physical conditioning program tailored to people with spinal cord injury
Perform a data collection in the application through a test where the user must place their age, stratum, care, weight, height, level of injury presented and that so much functionality presents.
Monitoring the percentage and frequency with which exercise is performed.
Rate the experience provided by the application
From the sustainable development goals, the objective of guaranteeing a healthy life and promoting the well-being of all at all ages is extracted, contributing to item 3.4 with the improvement of the quality of life through the promotion of the health and well-being of the person. On the other hand, 10.2 by promoting social inclusion, regardless of age, sex, disability, race, among others.
The barriers that exist mainly for the realization of this project are the socioeconomic and environmental barriers presented due to the pandemic caused by covid 19 generating an impact on growth and economic development affecting the development and development of the software.
Techniques: We do not have the knowledge and technological skills in computing for the development of a software that allows us by our own means to create the application.
Legals: Lack of legal advice for the contracting of the software development, legal protection of the app, as well as the legal agreements of the publication in the mobile stores and the policies of the same.
Work team: Currently the team for the realization of this project is made up of two people, that is why one of the barriers we have is the number of people who are in the work team.
Psychosocial: Unemployment and the pandemic generate depression in people affecting their motivation and desire to perform physical activity.
We are a team of physiotherapists who are still in training with the desire to improve ourselves and create solutions designed for the population with disabilities, we have practical experience provided by our university in the field of sports in the area of disability and rehabilitation in the musculoskeletal and neurological area. The skills we have are the ability to solve problems, commitment, dedication, analytical capacity and the vocation we serve to transform a life through human body movement. As background on the part of the leader of the group is research work as a modality of thesis in physical activity in the community and by Luis Ramirez research work in execution of thesis modality in the area of disability in auditory and sound futsal, in addition to participation in the research hotbed called Paralympic interdisciplinary sport IUEND, which aims to respond to problems through research processes related to Paralympic sports training.
For all the above, we are a team that has a track record to be able to provide timely solutions to the population already mentioned, because we understand the problem in which the population with physical disabilities is immersed and the barriers they present today.
We are not currently associated with any organization.

Through the inclusion of people with disabilities we can also improve the quality of life of women with injury because they are also part of our target population, since with this software a physical conditioning program will be implemented that promotes exercise / physical activity contributing to the improvement of the functional capacity of this population.
We will use the award for social innovation to be able to carry out the design and development of this software and guarantee a sustainability of the project.
