Protect Rimac River

Make the population around the Rimac river aware of the importance of keeping the water clean and not polluting the area. 

The solution does not include technology directly, but it could be used as a complement for certain points, some Apps or Websites could be used to inform about the situation as well as local sites to be able to contact collaborators or people interested in offering their help.

With this solution, more than a third of the population of Lima would be helped, that is, approximately 3 million people would be completely benefited by this impact. Since it is a recently raised idea, nothing that comprises the solution has been implemented yet.

Through this solution I seek to reduce the contamination of the rímac river because I believe that it is extremely important to preserve it and in this way it would be of help to all the citizens of Lima. Not only would the population benefit, but it would also be one more achievement achieved by fighting environmental damage as a country.

Although my country has a lot of environmental wealth and we own an ecological variety, there is a lot of poverty and there is no real awareness about caring for the environment. For this reason, the Rimac River has been highly damaged because the population invaded the surroundings and live there. However, they do not take care of it or preserve it for consumption, being detrimental to the health of hundreds of children.

-It would greatly reduce the number of people sick due to pollution, which mainly affects those who live closest to the river.

-The water that is treated to reach the homes would not be so loaded with chemical components.

-The plagues of rats, flies, cockroaches and mosquitoes that are attracted by the high pollution and garbage that lies in the entire flow of the river would be reduced.

-Agricultural land would improve what benefits the harvest of fruits and vegetables, since receiving high levels of contamination from chemical products and mining residues such as iron, zinc, copper, etc., impoverish the soils to the point of leaving them desolate and arid.

-Since the water is clean and free of garbage residues, the water would reach homes pure and improve the quality of life of the population of Lima.

The barriers that arise are mainly the lack of interest of the mayors and political leaders that the city of Lima has had and has, as well as the lack of interest or initiative of the citizens. We can also include the absolute lack of importance of mining companies and other factories regarding what causes their waste to end up being dumped in the river.

The way to propose is by disseminating the main actions and measures to protect and save the river through social networks and websites, as well as holding talks and even distributing awareness flyers. It could even be strengthened, making an alliance with some important organizations at the national level that are concerned about climate change and its strong consequences.

I have not yet made alliances or associated with any organization, however, if the opportunity arose, it would be very gratifying to be able to form ties with the WWF office in Peru, the FONAMI (National Environment Fund) and The Nature Conservancy internationally.
