It is a solution that focuses on converting plastic wastes into reusable items such as safety helmets, interlocking bricks, tiles while also enlightening the general public about the effects of improper disposal of plastic wastes. We created a scheme that eliminates environmental waste problems by eradicating high levels of plastic wastes across various communities and also ensures direct linkage to the people who have plastic wastes to dispose of through our user-friendly website. At re-innov8 we gather plastic pet bottles which is sent into the grinder for grinding afterwards it is transferred into a locally made extruder which shapes it into whatever desired products like interlocking bricks, safety helmets, tiles, and so on.

At re-innov8 the specific problem we are trying to solve is the issue of improper disposal of plastic wastes in our environment. present research has shown that 10,000 tons of plastics are improperly disposed of in drainage systems and roadsides yearly. 90% of the people living in rural and urban areas are constantly affected by improper disposal of plastic wastes. factors that contribute to this problem are carelessness, poor waste management system, non-awareness. statistic report has shown that poor and improper plastic waste disposal leads to blockage of drainages, killing of aquatic wildlife in the ocean thereby leading to the endangerment of aquatic wildlife, pollution of landfills and rivers. 

• Our solution serves to prevent future disadvantages in terms of endangerment of aquatic species, our solution also serves to change the lifestyle of human beings in waste disposal. the ways in which our solution hopes to impact lives is by the awareness of the disadvantages of improper plastic waste disposal and the proper ways to which people can properly dispose of plastic wastes through our website. Alimosho local government is in the Ikeja Division, Lagos with over 11, 456,783 residents as its population, Alimosho is known to thrive mainly in production industries, In Alimosho over 7 of 10 are affected by poor plastic waste disposal leading to blockage of drainages and unclean messy streets, alimosho is underserved due to the lack of poor plastic waste disposal mediums, they are also underserved due to refusals to proposals for plastic waste disposal items from the governmental bodies. The solution that my team is providing will help in addressing their needs through our user interactive apps provided for the collection of plastic waste so that individuals in Alimosho can submit them for recycling and conversion into usable items.

My team members and I have been to various organizations and centers (e.g. Community centers, Marketplaces, Schools, etc.) where people (our target audience) meet on a daily basis to ask more questions in regards to the problem we are solving. Through these visits, we had a lot of interactive sessions with our potential users which immensely helped us in the assessment of our product effectiveness in serving its purpose and also make the necessary adjustments in order to suit its users. Through the feedback we got from our potential users after pitching our ideas to them, we were able to get their opinions which aided the design and development of our idea into a solution.

The selected stage of development can be used to describe our solution because our product has been designed and is currently being tested by 10% of our target population (Alimosho) which is estimated to be over 11 million people. We have achieved about 15 percent of our set goals which is to create awareness and advise people about the improper disposal of plastic wastes. This is a great accomplishment for us and a big step towards the achievement of our goal because through the creation of awareness we have been able to align the mindset of our target audience with our goal. We have also used the prototype version of our product to mend damaged roads and fill up potholes. Our prototype has been assessed and tested by building and construction experts and has been proved to be a future substitute for cement bricks because of its durability and cheap price. 

The most significant technological item that will be used to implement our projects is a locally made extruder that is powered by electricity. It will be used to convert our plastic waste into liquid form and then solidify and carve it into our desired shape. We can’t complete our process without this piece of technology because without its presence our end product can’t be implemented. We also make use of grinders which are used to crush the plastic wastes into tiny pieces.

With our solution, My team and I intend to serve over 45 percent of our target population before next year which is estimated to be over 1 million people.

Our goal is to improve safe living environment in diverse communities through our tech based solution and to also implement hazard free solutions to curb the high rate of plastic wastes through enlightenment using our innovative skills.

Our progress will be measured using Outcome and Impact indicators.

The major barriers that pose a threat to the accomplishment of our goals are funds, Technical equipment and machines, legalising our project and a satisfactory Market presence for our product.

My team consists of individuals who embrace change, have a creative mindset, have technological skills,are exhibitors of diversity and cultural intelligence, have leadership skills, have interpersonal communication skills, are critical thinkers and who are active in learning with a mindset of growth and development. It is a team with people from diverse ethnic groups and backgrounds, this has helped us to view the problem and its solution from diverse perspectives and undergo their experiences as a team judging from each member feedback. Members of my team are categorised into various areas of specialization like researchers, young engineers, IOT experts and volunteers who are supported by external forces in forms of Mentors, Tech experts and Environmental scientists. Interpersonal communication skills has helped us to have various successful interaction sessions with our potential users where we got feedbacks that guided us towards the implementation of our solution.

We don't have any organisation we are partnering with for now but we will gladly accept an offer.
