Blockchain for Voting
We are going to use blockchain technology to make an app so we can have a more accessible way to apply a direct democracy.
It's going to be an app that helps to introduce people to the direct democracy. People are going to be able to vote for things like a law or to aprove an idea of the representative, this is going to give people an opportunity to participate more actively on political releted items.
It's going to use blockchain technology, therefore, people are going to be able to vote once and the possibilities of this app of being hacked are going to be minimum.
Through de system of representative democracy, the people don't have any mechanisms to let the represantative know that they don't approve the decision or the law that they have chosen. With a proyect like this, people are going to take more control over the decisions made for them.
The fact that in elections we have to vote a representative that is not the worst of all of them is a problem, because we are already conscious that we are not voting people that really care about us, we just vote people that wants to get power to do what they want without having a lot of consequences (not all cases, but the most are like this).
Clearly that when we end up electing representatives who are not interested in the welfare of the people, they no longer want to go to vote: here in Argentina, in the primary elections that we had in october only the 67% of the electoral roll go to vote (which is the lowest percentege that we had) and the issuance of blanck votes increased (it should be noted that this is something that is seen quite a bit globally).
In addition, this system favors the politic division in the population and in terms of power in the government; it seems that the most "secure" thing is to vote someone of your same politic party when in reality there is no guarantee that he/she will comply with what he/she says.
This is for every one, we would be able to stop laws or decisions that do not ensure the true needs of the people and we would be taking away some power from the governors being able to avoid corruption and we would avoid the politic division in the government which would make people more open to someone else's opinion.
I learned about the democracy used in Athenas (Ancient Greece) in 2017 and it seemed to me a very interesting method, besides that it was very effective at that time. In that moment they used to organize an assemblies to discuss the decisions that they where going to take for the people; the citizens also can make suggestions.
During this time, doing assemblies is not very feasible but with the app we could create a very similar environment.
- Other: Addressing an unmet social, environmental, or economic need not covered in the four dimensions above
It's important because the people are going to be able to have a direct democracy, where people can actually have power over the decisions made for the community.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
It's just an idea that I think can be viable.
- A new use of an existing technology (e.g. application to a new problem or in a new location)
The core technology is going to be blockchain. Because it's going to be an app for voting we need de assurance that it's going to be difficult (or impossible) to hack if anyone tries to.
- Blockchain
Because is not launched yet, I expect to use it in a little amount of population to see how it works and how is that affecting people.
An indicator that I would use is the amount of people that participate every time they have to vote.
