Nanotechnology for water-purification
Graphene based membrane for safe drinking water to solve health problems, solid environmental pollution, employment opportunities and agricultural sector promotion.
it is based on nanotechnology, FZS900-graphene, for water desalination and purification. The process is done by adsorption of both organic (like chlorination residues) and inorganic(heavy metals, fluoride, radioactives etc. ) chemical substance on the active sites of the synthesized and functionalized/activated graphene from the sugarcane baggase from tanzanian sugar manufacturing industries/companies.
A water purifier is designed from the graphene as the major membrane and other pre-membranes; sand, gravel and cotton wool in order to reduce pressure and concentration on the graphene based membrane that acts as the final lower membrane. The case(linings) will be plastic materials and temporary small tank like for pure water. And the purifier will directly be connected to water supply system to use the water pressure to facilitate the purification process thus the device will consume no energy.
Finally, wastes(baggase) from the sugar industries are used as raw material for FZS900-graphene synthesis. And thus the society will obtain safe water, solid pollution is reduced, sugarcane cultivation is promoted with additional economic values and opportunity due to the small industry development for purifiers.
the availibility of safe and clean water to rural people at a reasonable price.
The accumulation of sugarcane baggase will be reduced.
I first targeted the rural people where the problem is greater and finacially unable to obtain clear and safe water even by buying in near shops.
During my practical training at water quality laboratory and the Chief Government Chemist Laboratory Authority, I got much time to deal and analyze time water quality and environmental problems, and I observed many problems such as higher concentration of fluoride and chlorination by product like chloroform but also the accumulation of sugarcane baggase.
- Improving healthcare access and health outcomes; and reducing and ultimately eliminating health disparities (Health)
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
it is a concept because I started dreaming about it after I worked at water quality laboratory, singida region, Tanzania as a part of my practical training.
So far I haved prepared a project proposal ready for starting my research once I get funded.
- A new use of an existing technology (e.g. application to a new problem or in a new location)
the solution is based on the application of nanoscience (nanotechnology) to develop a water purifier by using graphene based membrame from sugarcane baggase

I expect to serve 300 people for the first time
1. good health due to the availability of safe water.
2. Job opportunities
3. Improvement in agricultural sector especially sugarcane cultivation.
1. Reduction in number of cancer and othe related water borne disease, the report will be obtained from our local hospitals.
2. Increased sugarcane production rate.
1. Fund for research and designing.
2. Market barrier due to the fact that many people live in poverty
3. Avaliability of technical instruments such as XRD FTIR etc in my country.
