PAPER FOR PAPER
PAPER FOR PAPER, You buy a paper we recycle and donate more than that! How? We’re Saving environment, Providing Employment and Educational Resources from the earned revenue.
It’s a non-profit organisation focused on providing population employment, student’s educational resources and saving trees.
The company will recycle waste paper collected from dumps and waste grounds using pre existing technology, which will then be used to make different style of papers and finally converting it into trendy notebooks of fine quality and selling in online as well as offline markets.
The revenue earned is segregated into different parts for specific requirements of company. Requirements include but are not limited to technical development, worker’s share, marketing and distribution. 30% of the revenue serve’s the sole purpose of organisation, that is to provide basic necessities to students for no cost.
Although existing technologies for paper recycling and manufacturing will be used but a significant part of the work will be human powered. Human powered work includes unique decorative covers ‘hand painted’, transportation etc. we’ve kept major part of the work human powered so to provide employment to as many local craftswomen/craftsmen as possible and to help them utilise their skills for financial independence.
Environmental: Our Earth needs ~33% of forest cover but in India it’s even less than ~25% which doesn’t need further explanation as being Global crisis.

Educational: But what needs an explanation is the literacy rate of Bihar, which is 69.83% as studying is not much encouraged due to poverty.
Poverty: 43.32 Million people in 2021 were unemployed in India, in initial stages we’ll incorporate people unemployed women sector.
Our solution specifically encounters these three problems: saving trees, providing employment and education.

Effected population is 40% & 15% of Indian population. Where total number of unemployed women is 530,880 accounting for 79% of women population ‘672,000’ in the region. This number is growing with an ever increasing unemployment rate of (Urban-9.9%, Rural-3.5%).

Only 2% of age group 6-14 is covered under Right to Education Act, 2009. Age group under 25 comprise of 50% of total Indian population and 50% doesn’t attend any institution, the numbers are huge ~345,000,000.

Our solution will provide job and resources to 7% of total effected population in the coming years and will increase the scale further. After our contribution against the problem, we will provide 10,617 unemployed women with a decent employment, whereas 808,088 students will be provided with notebooks. This would decrease the problem scale ‘2%’.
PAPER FOR PAPER mainly serves women, students and environment. Women society in India is underestimated in most aspects as they aren’t “allowed” to work, study and aren’t financially independent. I am sure this is the case all around the globe with few exceptions, thus giving them an upliftment and empowering them would help remove the stereotypes, sick mentality and provide employment.

Whereas under privileged children from small communities lack basic need, forget about study and one of the major reason is the affordability of resources. We’ll be providing educational resources, ultimately reducing the financial responsibilities on the parents. This in term will encourage them to let go their children for study. Our initiative alone cannot completely change it but will be a significant part towards the change.

The organisation provides employment to women sector as well as free resources such as notebooks to financially weak students from different part’s of not only India but also from the globe.
Almost everyone is familiar with environmental and global warming problem so describing it wouldn’t be helpful anyway. Apart from that, our solution mainly serves students and women but it also has a positive contribution towards environment as it sells and provide recycled paper.
I am from a community where doing some study or graduating high school is often regarded as luxury. Unfortunately, most students here after their high school either quit further study or are forced to do so. Forced? Yes due to either financial blocks or family responsibilities hold them back from going to a distant place for further studies. Interaction with them on a regular basis has unveiled many things some maybe hidden form the world.

Coming onto women society, the statistics shows women account for just 27% of work force and that’s quite obvious where women sector isn’t encouraged that much. Our interaction with women population found their eager to work and one common answer that we got was “our relatives discourage us from working, we too want to be a part of this explicit society. We are sufficient to help our family financially but the family is the only hurdle we’ve!”

Our partnership with NGO and a local Paper industry has led us to the root of problem. Nobody can doubt us that did we analysed the people in need and the problem, as we’ve passed through it and it’s a common problem of my community. I appreciate all those people who helped me design the solution, they consist potential users, friends and officials.

- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea

Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea; we’ve chosen this stage as we’re complete with business plan and with all necessary market data. All this growth due to collaborative effort of experts and our partner members we’ve now designed a proper foundation of the organisation on which it will be built. Precisely, we’ve interviewed direct consumers and population that’ll be effected, local craftworkers, analysed statistics and economical requirements.
Our partnership with many other has committed to provide us with necessary funds mentioned after a successful launch of “PAPER FOR PAPER”. The technological requirements we’re quite high and so most of our research work belongs to that sector, about which specific technology to go with? What other modifications can be made? and so on…
Concluding everything: Till now we’ve throughly did the research work, interviews with effected population, although no implementation due to unavailability of funds had been possible. we’re ready with proper business model and all plans to bring it to action.
- A new project or business that relies on technology to be successful
Although the technology being used here is very traditional we’ll incorporate computer science based tech including websites, application, online market, JAVA and others. Machinery being used is no new innovation but the use pre-existing paper recycling and manufacturing technology. I was able to have a close look at how the paper are manufactured at a near paper recycling industry and this is how it goes.
They used waste paper from dump yard for the manufacturing, the paper was first cleaned and sanitised at “washers” as they call it. Then it was dried and shredded, the so formed paper mix is then soaked in water to form pulp which is identical to raw pulp obtained from trees. The water is then rinsed, with some of water left pulp is placed on a mesh. The pulp takes a form of rectangle which is then covered by cloth, finally the water is rinsed in hydraulic press. The formed paper is dried in Sun’s heat and cut into desired size. Some visuals of the machinery incorporated are as follows:

This a pre-existing technology being used in paper recycling industries and our aim is to utilise this machinery for paper manufacture rather than investing huge amounts in Research and Development. The use of modern day computer science will also be incorporated to remove all hectic management tasks.

The solution is not yet launched and is currently at the business model stage. After analysing the population affected by the problem we’ve concluded some statistics.
Total number of unemployed skilled women is 530,880 accounting for 79% of total Women population 672,000 in the region. Our aim is to provide 2% of skilled unemployed women with meaningful job, that accounts to 10,617 of the women in the region from the total unemployed population of 530,880.

We are aiming to serve two different sectors of the population one being women and another students. In the state like this we’re studying is not much encouraged due to poverty in various communities. To encounter this we are aiming to provide 5% of total students with with educationalresources and necessities. Total count of 16,170,088 students are enrolled into some type of institution, 5% of this student population will be provided with their necessities, numbers are quite high accounting for 808,504 students being directly benefited.

All this concludes for a total of 819,12 of population that will be directly and meaningfully effected in the next year. The growth of organisation will incorporate people and students from nearby states too which isn’t mentioned here, as they are subject to overall reach and growth.
Our impact goals for the first year consist majorly of two things, providing 2% women population with employment and distribution of resources to 5% of total students in the state, considering the population the numbers are significant. This will reduce the financial burden on parents and they’ll be more comfortable with providing their children with proper education. Moreover, we’ve potentially tied with two organisations in different sectors to provide us with the resources and distribution facilities and with employees reinforcement.
First one is a local company who has developed a good market and has a good reach in the region and will provide notebooks and stationery to our centres. Our centres will be set at different locations in the region and will provide students with their necessities at no cost. With this we aim to expand this organisation in the state as well as provide 5% ~ 808,504 of total student with their requirements.

Our second tie up is with a local NGO thats provides job opportunities to women in need. They are committed to provide us with our ever increasing workforce requirements and providing the women work force with extra benefits over other for-profit organisations. This will promote women sector to utilise their skills and earn profit by getting employed with us.
Although our initial step will incorporate regional population but with our growth in the next five years we aim to incorporate more people from all over India.
“PAPER FOR PAPER” has set some fixed milestones that has to be achieved in the first financial year. Apart from our set milestones our solution is also being measured on the scale of SDG’s.
NO POVERTY: Our impact will provide employment opportunities all over India and will reduce the poverty by 2%
QUALITY EDUCATION: Suppling educational resources at no cost to promote education.
DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: Although women are directly benefited from the industry but it’ll open up whole new opportunities for regional population too.
PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS: partnered with many small organisations
CLIMATE ACTION: Tackling Environmental degradation and Global crisis by recycling and reusing, paper and fabrics.
INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE: The company is something real and physical and certainly requires Infrastructure to manufacture the industrial products. Also the industry will promote Innovation in pre-existing technology through R&D.
Being a student it’s near to impossible to invest such high amount on a nonprofit company, as the capital required is near to $ 5000. Thus grant from solved would not be helpful here but is the only thing that can give this idea a kickstart.
Currently the market is full of variety of notebook company which can cause a few hurdles, as the competitors won’t like that someone else is distributing the same product which they manufactured for sales and profit.
Also major part of Indian population has a sick mentality to not let women go out for work, this can certainly have a major impact as our goal is to target unemployed women so that they can enjoy financial freedom that’s often hard to get here.
Considering technology as we’ll be using pre existing technology, so it’s unlikely to face any problems in that sector.
These hurdles can significantly reduce our impact and expansion for the first few years. But our proper and planning incorporates several ways to handle these problems and ensure a smooth functioning of the organisation as reflected in the solution.
Our team doesn’t include just three members but is a group of people from different segments including business officials, engineers, NGOs and a network of small scale companies. But we’ll be representing the solution as being the founder of this initiative.
The community from which we come is the one we’re helping, so there is no doubt that if we understand the problem or not, as we have experienced the problem and difficulties we are solving. Moreover, I’m a more technically related and also a science student, “Aditya” is a more entrepreneurial mindset and a commerce student whereas “Vibhuti” is a much more socially inclined person who is helping to communicate to other people and bring in members.
I’ve been in three various research groups focused on developing technology, one of our research “RAKSHAK” were semifinalist of 3M YICA. “Vibhuti” is co-founder a “DeuxSTEM” and has involved many members in the society, “Aditya” with all his business skills has won numerous model startup competition.

So with our skills of technology, engineering, socialising and business that we all have developed in past few years makes us suitable for resolving any common problem. But we’re targeting three common problems for ourselves and for everyone.
As the “PAPER FOR PAPER” awaits to launch, we’ve potentially tied with two local organisations. They are committed to provide us with necessary help in their particular fields for a share of profit that’ll be earned in the region.
One of them is involved in planning a proper business model for exponential growth soon after the launch. Being specific, we are analysing the market including rates, accessibility and affordability. Selecting other small organisations for raw materials supply including but not limited to waste paper, construction materials, manufacturing materials etc.
Our partnership with NGO is looking for unemployed skilled workforce. Skills that are expected by local crafts worker including fine skills and manpower. Our selection of NGO is based on the way they approach local communities specially females as the total work force will include 70% of females.

“PAPER FOR PAPER” is qualified for The Pozen Social Innovation Prize as we’re improving the life quality of rural India. Although we’re committed to provide gender equality in notebooks distribution process but not so in the workforce/employment process.
As we’re providing 70% of total workforce with women and this certainly has a major impact on women society. This wouldn’t only provide them financial freedom but will also promote their dignity by removing social barriers they currently face.
Notebooks as said will be distributed equally to both genders with no preferences so this even promotes girl child education and promotes “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” “Save Girl, Educate Girl”.
Due to all these factors we’ve incorporated in our solution qualify us for The Pozen Social Innovation Prize.
