increase the skill availability in ICT in the Caribbean and Central America, this would result in reducing unemployment, increasing economic growth and preparing our youths for the New Digital Economy. The primary objective is to bring opportunity to youths throughout Central America and the Caribbean and to increase the potential of entreprenuerrship and innovation, to provide solutions to Government’s social and economic problems through high paying jobs. This initiative will help to grow the economies in the region while enticing and retaining young professionals to remain home-a solution to the brain drain and illegal immigration.
Youth unemployment and underemployment in the Caribbean and Central America
Our research has found that the software industry is having a potential impact that is rippling throughout the economy, creating high skill jobs, boosting wages, improving productivity, increasing exportable services and expanding the country’s economic potential. The potential economic activities enable increase in demand for innovation and services due to higher wages paid to those in the (ICT) industry and those in the industries that supply directly to the software companies.
If we don’t invest in this sector , our young people will not be prepared to take advantage of future jobs. We will risk the opportunity to retain our brightest talents and our human resources in the Caribbean and Central America will be at a disadvantage to compete in the global economy.
Our solution is to introduce coding and robotics in the curriculum of all primary and secondary schools throughout the Caribbean and Cenrtral America; additionally to implement job training in ICT to all upper level secondary students and graduates.
Our target are unemployed and underemployed youths in the Caribbean and Central America that would have completed secondary and junior college education. Young men and women between the ages of 17-30 that have no hope or opportunities in their native land. Young people who have loss their jobs in the tourism sectors in these region because of COVID 19 and the challenges and problem that it created for them and their familes. Presently in Grenada, we are providing job training and employment for youths that are living under poverty line. We are also creating exportable ICT employment for young people in Salesforce and software development.
