SSN Increaty
Poverty and limited job opportunities are among the factors that cause radicalism and extremism in Indonesia. Meanwhile, as automation continues in the industrial world, 23 million jobs are expected to be displaced in this country by 2030.
Increasing digital literacy through workshops on digital content production and technology will increase the skill of workers and young people, especially those who work in the music performance industry.
The enhancement of workers and youth's digital literacy through this program conceivably will expand job opportunities and improve their welfare, while strengthening the values of inclusiveness among youth.
- Equip existing workers in India and Indonesia with country-appropriate and culturally-relevant digital literacy skills and vocational training opportunities
- My solution is being deployed or has plans to deploy in Indonesia
Jobs automation is expected to replace 23 million jobs in Indonesia by 2030. Meanwhile, the COVID-19, pandemic that forced public spaces closure, also warned us of the urgency of increasing digital competence of art workers, especially workers in the music performance industry.
Art workers in Bandung, as the City of Musicians and Creative City, are among the most affected in the current pandemic situation. Although the Bandung Municipal Government has relaxed their policies in the tourism sector, they still have not allowed offair or outdoor concerts, which have resulted in hundreds of event organizers and thousands of workers still cannot being able to work again.
The digital ecosystem of the music industry evolves as new platforms, technologies, types of jobs and skills emerge. While some artists and art workers have been able to adapt and take advantage of this change, most of them have been unable to keep up with it.
The digital ecosystem of the music industry evolves as new platforms, technologies, types of jobs and skills emerge. While some artists and art workers have been able to adapt and take advantage of this change, but most of them have been unable to keep up with it.
This condition does not only take place in Bandung or Indonesia. Live music performances make up 50% of the total US$50 billion global music industry revenue. A six-month shutdown is estimated to cost the industry more than $10bn in sponsorships, with longer delays being even more devastating.
Art workers, especially performance industry workers, are one of the groups who are vulnerable to losing their jobs or opportunities to work in the midst of various changes within the Industrial Revolution 4.0, especially during the pandemic when various entertainment and tourism activities were closed.
This condition is exacerbated by the unequal access to programs that can improve their competence, as well as alternative policies that allow them to continue to work during the pandemic, even though the performance industry is a sub-sector of the creative industry which is the leading economic sector of the City of Bandung.
Seraya Semesta Nusantara (SSN) works with various youth communities, especially art workers and other creative industries in Bandung and its surroundings. Through these collaborations, we are able to understand the problems faced by artists and other creative industries.
The solution we propose is a formulation of the results of our discussions with artists, especially musicians and performance industry actors.
Various developments during the current Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the pandemic have made art workers, especially performance industry workers vulnerable to lose their jobs or work opportunities. This condition not only threatens their well-being, but also has the potential to make young people more susceptible to radicalism and violent extremism ideas.
Many young musicians have already quit playing music because according to their teachings music is forbidden, and this in turn widens the polarization among young people, which often leads to conflict, as well as exacerbating the decline of the music industry in Bandung.
Increasing digital literacy of art workers and youth competencies through SSN Increaty – a workshop on digital content technology and production – will increase their skill and job opportunities, as well as promoting inclusive values among youth people, especially art and performance workers.

SSN will continue to develop partnerships with all stakeholders as well as aligning the solution with related organizations, communities, corporate social responsibility and government programs, such as Solve and the Caterpillar Foundation.
