As For Us & Our House is very excited about the opportunity to take our work to the next level. Elevate Prize Funding will give us an opportunity to reach more people and financial assist those who are in need. Ultimately, we would like to be able to go into numerous surrounding communities and provide work shops. Reserving facilities, transportation for participants, and provide food/snacks for our workshops is major issue. We want to help ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate in our programs, regardless of their financial situation. We also want it to be a great experience for everyone who attends.
As the Founder of As for Us & Our House, Inc., which is a 501c3 non-profit organization, I have over 20 years of volunteer work, leadership, coaching, mentoring, and training. I have partnered in building numerous programs created to effect change mentally, economically, educationally, and socially. I believe that everyone is created uniquely, with a special set of gifts and talents, that in many cases, just needs to be discovered.
As the Athletic Director at Upper Room Christian School, I founded Long Island’s 1st Post Graduate program, leading to sixteen student-athletes receiving collegiate athletic scholarships over a two year duration. As a high school student athlete, I was blessed to lead Long Island Lutheran to its 1st Class “A” Basketball State Championship in 1997, as we upset the #2 nationally ranked LaSalle Academy, led by High School All American & NBA Star, Ron Artest. I am a college graduate from the University of Maryland.
I believe if there is a will, there is a way. Our vision is be a Beacon of Hope to the underserved community. Everyone has an opinion, but everyone isn't willing to sacrifice, to have a positive impact. Our team provides a wide of life experiences, accomplishments, & talents, but most importantly we have the heart and passion to empower our community.
Currently, there is a major disconnect between police officers and the public. Many people, especially our youth, are scared of police and are unaware of how to conduct themselves when it comes to encounters with police. This leaves our community (our youth) in an unprepared status. Our board consists of a Nassau County Police officer and a retired NYC Police Officer, who will play a major role in spearheading this program.
This subject is a national issue and lives are at stake. We want are youth to understand the importance of getting home to their family; living to fight another day. We also want the public to know their rights, and the lawful process of standing up for their rights, such as submitting a complaint. Our program, named "Positive Police Public Interaction", wants to begin to build or rebuild a positive relationship between the public and the police.
The PPPI program will create a bridge between the police and public, targeting our youth. We will teach our youth the best practices for safety in multiple situations, such a car stops, domestics, or when approached by a police officer on the street. Our forums/discussions will also create a dialog between police and public, so both parties can see through each other's eyes.
It's very important to give everyone an opportunity to express themselves, in a respectful manner. It's also important to discuss solutions, giving all parties an opportunity to be a part of the solution.
Our team will represent and offer an image of the unity, which is necessary for progress. "The Police" and "The Public" working side by side to make our community, our nation, our World, a better place.
Our organization, "As For Us And Our House, Inc.", brings people together. We discuss, provide information, and formulate solutions based on current community needs and issues. We are launching multiple programs this year in addition the our "PPPI" program, which all address currents needs and issues within our community.
We will empower each other, through love, patience, and positive communication, understanding that every life counts.
