FILAMUJUANI FOUNDATION
- Kenya
I am seeking to raise funds and be part of my organisation's vision which is, job creation through media production training programs.
Filamujuani currently trains needful youth in Media Production thereby helping them create their own stories and earn a living through telling them to the world in digital media.
We are seeking to expand the program to other Counties, by setting up a maximum of five content hubs per county, train more youth as well as help them to earn a living through selling their creative stories.
Each county will house a total of 5 Content Creation Hubs which will be equipped with basic film production equipment where the trainees will come up with content through supervision from headquarters. The content produced will include but not limited to; Tv-Shows, Films, Documentaries, Music Videos and Documentaries. Through this training, we will be able to create a total of 10,400 annually.
The cost of setting up 5 equipped content hubs amounts to 220,000 US Dollars whereas 832,000 US Dollars is required for training the youth annually. This implies that a total of 1,052,000 US Dollars is required per county, thus sourcing for funds that will see the program a success.
I am a career banker with combined experience in film production and IT, currently a Marketing Lead at Filamujuani. My vision is to own a media house that will majorly focus on providing solutions to socio-economic issues affecting Africa.
Filamujuani is an organisation that focuses on equipping the youth with media production skills that will enable them to creatively tell their stories and in turn make a living through them.
Our goal is to ensure Filamujuani is the best and most prefered institution in offering Media Production training in Africa as well as create employment through telling of African stories to the world.
At Filamujuani foundation, we creatively create more jobs for the youth through media production training. We train youth in Videography, Cinematography, Photography, Lighting, Sound Recording, Video Editing, Sound Design and Production Management. The youth then employ their newly acquired skills to tell their stories in form of Tv Shows, Dramas, Documentaries, Photobooks, Community News, Community magazines and share with the communities in digital formats. Through this, the youth are able to generate income thereby meeting their daily expenses or even pay for their fees. They also gain skills that would have cost them a much higher amount of money in other institutions just to acquire.
This type of job creation has brought lives to many families especially those that found it difficult to earn a living thus a reason to expand to other counties and impart the same knowledge to other needful youth.
When one is in need of a videographer, a designer or even a photographer, they look for works that the respective individual has been able to execute and if it pleases them or matches their desire, then the person gets the job. This implies that skills and creative work are much better than just papers. We, therefore, get the youth and take them through 20% theory and 80% practical skills where they start producing their created content. The youth also get to visit other production sets whose production are on TV, magazines or even online, get the knowledge and implement the same on their projects. This helps them to understand the processes it takes to have projects like films implemented fully and what it takes to have a quality product that does generate revenue. This means that those youth who found it hard to go to school and earn a job now have the opportunity to start earning and improve their livelihoods either by advancing their careers or even catering for their family members daily and education needs.
Skills-based media production training has been been very substantial to an extent that it has brought direct benefit has been evidenced in the communities where more youths are applying to go through our training. This has seen Filamujuani employ a Community lead who oversees different needs in communities and have them integrated into the program. In general, skills-based media production training has seen a reduction in criminal activities, talent identification and commercializing, improvement of livelihoods of the respective trainees and their families and also indirect job creation where they are able to employ other people to work for them under different capacities.
