Solidarity with Vulnerable People for Community Development
- Congo, Dem. Rep.
The Congolese woman in general and that of South Kivu in individual is faced with many access problems and control of resources and factors of milk production discrimination and social consideration (sometimes as instrument of production and pleasure, sometimes as a sub-being which men can treat according to their level.
Girls discussed in this project are Members of SOPEVUDECO ASBL living in the slums and the outskirts of the City of Bukavu. 90 they are not only responsible for households and displaced persons from wars in from their rural areas to Bukavu in search of an oasis of peace after they are abandoned or repudiated by their Spouses due to the fact that uncivilists have been abused of them by raping them. It is in this context that we want to convert these women victims of rape and sexual violence in a chicken farmer layers, in order to promote breeding and marketing of poultry in the City of Bukavu. The funds will be used to purchase a plot for the construction of the farm (chicken building and farm fence), purchase of 18000 hens and purchase of materials (incubator-hatcher, sanitary product, mill mill for manufacturing feed for chickens, drinkers, feeders, etc.).

SOPEVUDECO was created on January 01, 2013 by 10 members (2 men and 8 women) sensitive to vulnerable groups concerned with putting smiles on the lips of people in difficult situations through activities promoting peace and development endogenous. Analogously to the dawn of 2014, SOPEVUDECO changes the name and becomes "Olame Ndame" which means "to live together" more precisely "Olame N’kanyanja" which means to live like the lake "Eternally" "Olame" translates in short a wish in Machi "Olame n'kanyanja" which literally translates: "that you live like the lake", with a background of ancestral belief of the populations around Lake Kivu, in the immortality of lake, considered as not having had the beginning and will not know the interruption in the flow which makes it live of its waters "Olame" expresses finally, a wish of life, a life abundance, a life without end. It is the elderly and widowed women beneficiaries of the actions of the association who are said to have proposed this name; this name lives on in the actions of the association and to make its contribution to "life" She has carried out her activities in favor of its members who are victims of rape and sexual

violence.

1 - The conversion center for women victims of rape and sexual violence as a breeder of laying hens. The center will consist of a poultry farm with laying hens in semi-freedom to produce, chicks and eggs. Initially, the center will have around 900 direct beneficiaries. Just by considering the family members of direct beneficiaries 6,300 people (Considering an average of 7 people per beneficiary),
2 - Training in breeding laying hens will be organized within the pilot center (the farm) and the direct sale of these products by the center from the last months of the project to ensure the turnover and empowerment of the center: The center will train at least 90 people per month for 10 months. The training components are three: 1. The basics of farming in agroecology; 2. Notions of food and husbandry, especially the health aspect: prevention and care; 3. Functional literacy (Elements of farm management as well as the management of a marketing cooperative).
3 - IGAs are born around the breeding of laying hens At the end of the training, the beneficiaries will have the skills required to start breeding. At the end of the training each participant will receive chicks
- Our "action to convert women victims of rape and sexual violence, displaced by wars into laying hen breeder" will help improve the living conditions of these vulnerable women by creating a new income-generating activity while improving the nutritional health of the population and especially of children through the dietary intake of protein of animal origin. The number of poultry farmers will increase in and around South Kivu. As well as livestock inputs (chicks and eggs) will be available on the farm at a more affordable price than on the market.
- This project will help improve the economic income of young women, most of them mothers, through the breeding and marketing of chickens and eggs. Short-cycle farming, especially poultry, represents a privileged source of income for the poorest in rural and peri-urban areas. In this sense, it is identified as an important element of the strategy to fight poverty and improve food security.
900 affected women will develop their self-confidence, their autonomy and their capacity to innovate.
- Technical capacities in small livestock are mastered by the 900 beneficiaries
- Modern factors of production are acquired
- Modern poultry farming is run from 18,000 layers.
- More than 7000 eggs produced / day from the 10th month of breeding
the main stages of which will be:
- implementation of the project (Identification of the site and installation of the farm with the construction of a henhouse with a capacity of 100,000 birds).
- Training of project staff, purchase of project materials and hens
