Traffick Jam Live
- United States
Traffick Jam Live’s goal is to raise awareness and increase action in the fight against human trafficking. We currently produce a news broadcast that features organizations who are in the thick of the battle, showcasing all of the programs and resources they offer and the powerful work they do. This broadcast is shared via social media. We’d like to expand that news broadcast into broader content to reach a broader audience. The vision is to produce music festivals, movies, TV shows, podcasts and videos that tell the stories of victory and struggle, showing people the truth of the plight of the trafficked and that it is happening in their own town - from Podunk, SD to Backwater, OK. This is not a problem relegated to only third world countries or big cities. The Elevate Prize funding would help us build a top-tier event and content production crew and studio to bring these truths to light and ignite a movement to end the atrocities of human trafficking.
I am an advocate and an ally for all of the oppressed people of the world! My vision is to create a platform for information, education and action in the fight against human trafficking. Purpose equals Love. I do what I do out of pure love for my fellow man. If we don’t love and care for others, what is the purpose of life? I have a strong relationship with God and it’s through His Love that I am able to love and give my gifts and talents to impact lives. TJL has given me a vehicle to do just that!
As we roll out interviews and broadcasts now, we look to the future when we can reach millions of people with the messages of the organizations we serve and work alongside. The goal is an army of millions watching, listening, reporting, disrupting everything associated with human trafficking. This army of eyes, ears, hands, feet and hearts will mobilize to win this battle and save lives. That is my ultimate goal and the goal of Traffick Jam Live - ending human trafficking!
The problem: a lack of awareness and informed conversation around human trafficking among everyday people. Without the full truth and facts, people remain complacent and desensitized to this epidemic and never take action.
Human trafficking is a global issue. The Int’l Labor Organization estimates that forced labor and human trafficking is a $150 billion industry. ILO estimate 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally. Polaris estimates that US victims reach into the hundreds of thousands.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime published its “GLOBAL REPORT ON TRAFFICKING 2020”
- 28% of all sex trafficking victims detected in North America are girls
- 96% of sex trafficking victims are women and girls combined
- More than 1 in 4 victims of sex trafficking are girls under the age of 18
Our Solution: Traffick Jam Live News - our weekly broadcast that expands our meaningful relationships with an ever-growing network of leading U.S. anti-trafficking organizations (ATOs), and our national audience of subscribers and followers. TJL is getting the word out about what trafficking is and where it happens as well as how to join the fight in tangible, active ways.
TJLN shines a spotlight on the shadows of trafficking. Search for trafficking news, you find plenty of common news outlet stories about busts and rescues, which is fantastic, but nothing about the organizations behind these busts, doing the work, the research, helping rescued survivors put their lives back together, or how to take action to help, except for TJL News. We use social media so people can easily share stories and information leading to action, disruption, dismantling and policy change.
TJL has 2 new campaigns coming this fall that will empower more U.S. ATOs to collaborate.
- An innovative hand signal for the trafficked to deliver to trained eyes (e.g. flight attendants) signaling they are in fear of or actually being trafficked. This hand signal provides an “all-new'' exit strategy for trafficking victims.
- A ten-month national “Eyes-4-U'' tour producing festive events to announce the hand signal exit strategy and provide fundraising opportunities for local ATOs. Each stop will feature casual tournaments of popular games, a BBQ with a JAM concert finale.
In 2022, TJL is launching a national ATO collaborative alliance to share best practice resources and create a social media content creation hub for 100+ U.S. ATOs.
Helping to save the world’s most vulnerable from sex slavery, forced labor and the trauma that comes from the atrocities of human trafficking is impactful! We at TJL do this work because it is important and imperative! There has to be education, awareness, a platform for the voices involved in the battle to be heard and shared. TJL has taken on this challenge. Through interviews, broadcasts, social media awareness campaigns we are telling the stories and informing the world on how to be an effective part of the solution.
We all know the impact and effectiveness of social media. This community-based vehicle is an essential part of any awareness campaign and an integral part of the TJL program.
It is our desire to expand this work beyond social media into live events and dramatic content such as movies and TV shows. Movements have been started and messages have been spread swiftly through live events and produced content.
