The world is full of businesses and people who are highlighting the issue of plastic waste, what is missing is someone who links all the initiatives that are being promoted to where the problems are at the most extreme. Peoples Plastic Revolution will give plastic waste a value and work with companies that recycle end of life plastic.
Because the "first" world has exported its plastic waste to some of the poorest countries in the world this approach will develop an economy in some of the poorest places in the world. Meaning plastic waste will provide education, health and wealth for the poorest people.
It has been known for sometime that plastic waste is a big problem. Seeing documentaries such as The Blue Planet and A Plastic Ocean really drives the message home that something must be done.
Being a scuba diver I know that plastic is everywhere and it is getting a lot worse.
Having travelled all over the world I have seen first hand how unfair the world can be. Poverty is the reality for the vast majority of people living on Earth. The irony is that the worlds wealthiest nations have dumped millions of tonnes of plastic waste in the worlds poorest countries.
I want to use the scourge of plastic waste to produce a living wage for the poorest people.
Peoples Plastic Revolution wants to see a Plastic Recycling Centre in every major city, town and village. The recycling of plastic waste will develop an economy for the poorest people in the poorest nations on earth.
We will work tirelessly to see the world free from plastic waste, on our land, in our oceans, and in the air. By doing so we will bring wealth, health and education to the poorest people. Win Win.
There is 9 billion tonnes of plastic waste in our environment. In 2019 it was estimated that 380 million tonnes of plastic was produced, and each year plastic production is growing. In the past we have dealt with plastic by burying it, burning it or dumping it into the nearest river. That must stop.
The facts are detailed here https://ourworldindata.org/plastic-pollution
Currently only around 9% of plastic is being recycled. Only the very "thickest" plastic is used in recycling. Most plastic is seen as having no value. PPR will give value to all types of plastic. Paying local communities for collecting all type. The plastic that is collected will be processed and taken back to its original state, oil. That oil has value.
PPR NFP will sell the plastic it collects to businesses that process the plastic. All profits from the collections will be used to provide education to the local communities. The education will include reading, writing and arithmetic, as well as education on protecting the local environment.
The approach of PPR NFP is to use waste to generate wealth in the poorest nations on earth. Our sister company Peoples Plastic Revolution Limited processes end-of-life plastic waste and produces oil from it. The oil is sold on the open market.
The process that is used is called pyrolysis. Pyrolysis has been used for over 3000 years, it is how charcoal is produced. The oil is used in things such as pain or fuel for planes.
PPR NFP will work with local communities collecting plastic waste and delivering it to the recycling plant. Peoples Plastic Revolution Limited will pay PPR NFP for the feedstock. PPR NFP will pay the local community for their labour.
In addition to the payment for labour PPR NFP will provide education for the local community. This education will include reading, writing, and arithmetic, as well as education on protecting the environment.
PPR NFP is working closely with our sister company called Peoples Plastic Revolution in building recycling centres throughout the world. There are projects in the Philippines, Mexico and Italy. Peoples Plastic Revolution will build recycling plants and provide facilities to offer education to the local population.
In the Philippines the land has been identified and the funding is in an advanced stage. It is planned to start building the recycling plant in the next six months. This will provide employment for the local population.
Once the recycling plant is running PPR NFP will employ local people to collect and sort the feedstock for the plant. Peoples Plastic Revolution will pay for the sorted feedstock. This will give local people a regular income. The money they earn will be spent in the local community which will help develop further economic activity in the area.
The education facility will provide basic education plus education on how to start a business. On example that is under consideration is providing cooking facilities that will burn clean fuel, which will help the environment by reducing the amount of timber that is burnt.
