Where Rainbows Meet Training and Development Foundation( NPO
- South Africa
If given the privilege of becoming the Elevate Prize Winner for Funding, our dream is to improve our development centre. At Where Rainbows Meet Training and Development Foundation, we are currently facing major challenges where our buildings are not at a satisfactory level. Our organization operate out of several containers, one Bungalow of wood, and a few prefab buildings. These buildings deteriorate as the flooring has lost it's stability and needs constant repairs . It overheats throughout the summer months due to the metal roofing. The Roof also get's damage and leaking is taking place all the time. During Winter it is nearly impossible to move around to the various buildings without getting soaking wet. It is big concern as well as for the community we support on a daily basis. When winter season arrives, we serve the people outdoors in the cold weather as there is no shelter.. When we look at all these challenges, the money will be a great opportunity and investment long term for the communities as well as the people that works at the organization.. To improve the center will allow us to do our work in a more dignified and humane way as well as having great Pride in our organization as a whole. .
I am a mother, wife, aunty, mentor, but most importantly i am a women that believes in supporting and helping others. I am the third eldest of my family and the only one that went to Universality. When i attended the universality i realize that i would love to work with people by helping them discover who they are and how they can achieve their dreams and goal. I am also in the social work field and that is something close to my heart ensuring that the communities get the support needed when faced with a social problems. As a mother i raised my four kids, three son's and one daughter whom I love very much. I am a strict mom, but also a loving mom with a lot of humor. As children we were abused, but when i learnt this, I committed myself to protect and serve with utmost human dignity, respect, and help children become the best they can be. I achieved many accolades for the work that we do, and how I do my work as a person. They always say the communities are blessed to have me as a person in their areas, but i feel i am the one that is blessed by serving them. I dream of a Free society of crime and that everyone be treated equally through our development programs.
Our organisation's main focus is education. Our ECD is for our children, we believe children should be in a conducive learning environment and be developed in the best possible way in order for them to become the best they can be. Computer Training for the un-employed, and Life-skills in order for them to find a good job in the world of work. Sewing and Beading for destitute and abused women, as well as unemployed women. Our women becomes independent and rebuilt their lives by becoming stronger every day. Gender base Violence and HIV/AIDS are quiet high therefore our program serves as a beacon of hope to many. An organic garden to feed the communities feeding kitchen as well as offering gardening skills for people who wants to grow their own vegetables. The community is also allowed to buy the vegetables at a small fee. After school programmes which consist of soccer programmes and Performing Arts in order to curb the violence and prevent gangsterism. The children get their meals and we assist them with their homework as well as getting involve in our reading programme. Our annual awareness events involves community participation and they must attends all awareness programmes throughout the year. The mentoring and supporting to international volunteers that have to do community volunteering as part of their studies makes us stand out.
Our work is very unique due to us working from the cradle to the grave. We have an holistic approach where we address the social ills in the communities at large. Our Life-skills is based on experiential learning and it is combined with all our projects.. We believe if we want to change a community, we need to focus on the families as a whole and not an individual. Our communities are rife with poverty, drugs/ alcohol, high unemployment, truancy, Gender base Violence and many other social ills which only brings negativity in any family as well as our communities.. Our holistic approach helps to mold and shape the families as a whole. Rainbows always adapts their programmes according to the needs of the people. Whether it be a Pandemic or any challenge, we rise above through our creativeness. 2020 was tough and we had to adapt or die, and we adapted to the needs of the various communities. Established 20 other new kitchens and created Leadership programmes for those that was never in a leadership position before. Assisted in different ways but not really moving away from the objectives of the organization. We became nationally known for serving justice to the various communities we serve.
When we established the organization, we were called by the communities in order to get them the support needed. At first we thought the communities expect too much of us due to us not having any facilities nor any finances, nor infrastructure. They supported us whole heartedly. The organisation was established with the communities and for the communities. They walked a mile with us, by protecting us and introducing us to the communities. A trust was built from the start and every project was build and created because it was what the communities needed and requested. We built the trust through Leadership and mentoring our communities. Training that can enhance them by understanding the value of having an organisation in their own communities by their own people. Our success is based on the trust and respect earned by the communities. By having community involvement and explained every activity that will take place for the betterment of the communities at large. Respect is something one earns, and we had to work hard by educating our own people in order to earn their trust through love and Humanity. Education is key for us and we believe in educating our people can lead them in the right direction by taking ownership of their own lives
