Five years ago I created Movilizatorio with the aim of promoting innovation and citizen engagement for social transformation. I funded it under the vision to be a lab because I believe that the great challenges our democracies face, added to a rapidly changing context, require experimentation, innovative approaches, flexibility and adaptability. This has never been so true, as it is in 2021, during the COVID 19 pandemic where governments and civil society all over the world are facing major uncertainties on how their democracies, health, education and economic systems will adapt. Under these circumstances, Movilizatorio continues to innovate and respond rapidly to challenges, by researching, designing, testing, evaluating and iterating participative solutions for social impact in topics such as leadership empowerment and development, awareness and communication, and Mobilization and activism.
I am applying to the Elevate Prize because I want to scale and expand social impact. Go even further in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and other countries in the region. I seek to strengthen collective leadership and to advance our work in topics such as: young and citizen media literacy, researching about polarization and its possible solutions, protection and empowerment of social leadership, peace and youth mobilization.
My story has been about thriving and exploring the best paths to strengthen collective leadership in order to promote change. I believe that there are not just a few, but many people out there, that with the appropriate strategies, tools, impulse and networks, can gather, mobilize and make social change a reality. Under this vision and passion on social innovation, the digital age, and international relations I decided to create Movilizatorio, a social innovation and citizen engagement lab that seeks to strengthen collective leadership as the engine for social transformation.
I was able to fund Movilizatorio, thanks to previous knowledge and experiences such as being part of the Purpose team, from where I advised on global mobilization strategies and working for more than 6 years in the public sector in Colombia promoting cooperative alliencies. I prepared myself through constant education, such as doing a Master's Degree in Public Administration at Harvard University.
As Movilizatorio, we envision in 2025 to be a solid reference in the continent of innovative strategies and effective citizen mobilization. Through our work in Argentina, Mexico and Colombia, we aim to impact a lasting social transformation and mobilize more than 1 million agents of change per year.
Movilizatorio is a social innovation and citizen engagement lab for Latin America that seeks to strengthen collective leadership as the engine for social transformation, using tools such as: technology, innovation, education, partnerships, communication and behavioral change. Our work focuses on boosting opportunities for citizen engagement and empowerment through collaboration, mobilization, campaigning and bottom-up co-creation of strategic agendas and solutions in Latin America. Achieving social transformation requires comprehensive measures and initiatives, that is why we have four strategic lines of work: 1. Leadership empowerment and development, 2. Awareness and communication, 3. Mobilization and activism, and 4. Knowledge generation.
Movilizatorio is a social innovation and citizen engagement lab. We believe that the great challenges our democracies face, added to a rapidly changing context, require experimentation, innovative approaches, flexibility, and adaptability. This has never been so true, as it is in mid-2020, during the COVID 19 pandemic where governments and civil society all over the world are facing major uncertainties on how their democracies, health, education, and economic systems will adapt to social distancing. Under these circumstances, Movilizatorio continues to innovate and respond rapidly to challenges, following a rigorous process of designing, testing, evaluating, and iterating participative solutions for social impact.
The scale of the problems Movilizatorio addresses in Colombia and Latin America is relevant and urgent. Our governments and civil society all over the world are facing major uncertainties on how their democracies, health, education, and economic systems will adapt. Under these circumstances, Movilizatorio continues to innovate and respond rapidly to challenges and create participative solutions for social impact in topics such as leadership empowerment and development, education, environment protection, peacebuilding, information, and human rights. Specifically, at this moment we seek and work for achieving problems such as a more peaceful and democratic society.
Movilizatorio has reached more than 6 million people and worked more than 15 projects aligned to our goal of social transformation. Through education, empowerment, social innovation methodologies we impact every citizen and community we work with. Movilizatorio believes that each citizen can engage and raise its voice to advocate and make an impact on a better world and democracy. With our different campaigns we have impacted the National Plan of the government, the sign of the Escazu Agreement, the declaration of climate emergency in Bogota, the empowerment of youth towards climate change and democracy, among others.
