Moçambique Visionario
- Mozambique
I started working in Radio Mozambique as a journalist and one of the issues that concerned me was how to motivate young people and women from a village to speak for themselves, how to write and do a Report Impact especially in scenarios where women and children need Humanitarian Help.
It is in this context that I founded Mozambique Visionary and embraced social sciences at Pedagogical University and UNISA University (Civic Leadership, Gender Budgeting, Human Rights Understanding and Results Based Management) to learn and assimilate how to support organizations to build better policies, strategies and other tools to better advocate for a Generation of Equality, in 2019 we Launch the Initiative Empowering women in Public Speaking to improve women´s skills and to put them talking about what they want and take space at the table in decision making process, thus why I Believe that if selected based on the MIT vision and enviroment will help me to amplify the voice of vulnerable groups to ensure that no one is leaved behind I will invest in this initiative to engage and bring to public debates young people and women from different backgrounds and enable them to face the 21 centenary challenges in their communities.
I grow up in Boane, Maputo Province, the access to education was very law especially for young girls like me, and several times I heard my neighbor’s saying girls should be prepared to be great wives. However, my father always pushed me to study and in 2013 I started working in a community Radio Vozcoop, on Child Rights, as my history changed I could see that girls could do more.
In 2014 I started to engage Young Women, while dealing with child violation cases as well as giving information to the community.
In 2018 I found Visionary Mozambique which defend the Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 5 and 4) and platform” Empowering women through public speaking”-in order to help young people with skills and knowledge that are on demand in the 21st century for them to be able to increase their opportunities, this year the project benefited up to 1000 the majority being women because the project aims also to promote Women Human rights using Public Speaking tech(niques).
I would like to take this opportunity to young women in my country in all provinces and create clubs for them to teach other young people the same skills.
Young people and Women are the majority in Mozambique more than 60 . Although, there is no equality and social injustice against this group as nocive cultural pratices, domestic violence, right to speak and exercising the political and sexual and reproductive rights is becoming very high special for women and girls.
According to UNICEF more than 8 millions of children and Young Girls were immediately affected with 6,9 milions in Elementary level, 1,25 milhão at Secondary Schools and more than 85.000 students.
Many Girls and youth lost opportunities for learn, to speak and with covid 19 many girls have been forced to get married or get pregnant in a poverty situation, because there is no a mechanism to engage female participation, as result we have a lack participation and representation. Since March of 2019, at list 53 Universities were closed, many students were challenged to study from home but many don’t have one and don’t how to manage, not to mention the fact that the internet is expensive.
We address 3 key areas of training: 1. Empowerment of Women in Public Speaking, 2. Empowerment of Young People in Leadership Skills and 3. Tech for Innovation in Covid-19 times
We have a young team working for other young people. On the other hand, we bring a different approach to the Sustainable Development Goals focused on empowerment, on investing in women and girls because they are considered a weak group, we seek to prove to communities and other relevant actors through actions that it is possible for women and girls to transform the lives of communities, as well as to deconstruct the constructs that contribute to women, girls and youth being seen as objects of sexual exchange to alleviate poverty and youth a waiting room.
Launch of the Initiative-Empowering of Women in Public SpeakingSince 2018 we have trained and even included trainees (more than 6,000 at national level) online and in person, and of these we have included some in our volunteer body.
On the other hand, we have been working to make the initiative reach more girls, women and young people at national level, we managed to have participants from the provinces in the capitals and districts, still with some limitation, but fortunately they have shown more commitment than the city dwellers, which makes us eager to take the initiative to the communities.
For now we are working with the Student Associations and recent graduates and district representations to see if we can join efforts to take this opportunity to those who most need it, we have always included young people and women from the districts and localities in our lives and this helps to bring their opinion to the public debate.
