Hindi’s libraries
- United States
Our goal is to continue Hindi’s legacy by providing books to children and families in need. Money would be used to ensure that we can fulfill our mission.
Funding will be allocated for:
- Book shipments
- Purchasing of new books from our wholesale partners
Because we do not ask any recipients to help pay for their books, shipping costs are extremely high and most often we utilize personal funds
We have partnered with several nonprofits that cannot accept gently used books due to immune compromised children and therefore we’d love to provide them with new books and service their needs.
Hindi’s Libraries began as a tiny project I initiated for Hindi’s children on their school campus. With the blink of an eye it exploded into something greater. I have since put all of my energy into expanding our organization by any means possible. While we’re still a fledgling organization my vision shows us as an established international nonprofit that has strong partnerships with book retailers and wholesalers as well as shipping companies so that we can easily fulfill our donation requests by the palette rather than a few boxes that each hold 60 books. I have big dreams and I will work to make them happen.
I hope to set up a team so that we can create branches of our organization across the globe led by people who can help fulfill our mission whether by running book drives or working within their community to provide books to children that are struggling to afford books of their own.
I want to show people that anyone has the power to make an impact. Even a working mom of 2 who is with a full time job working every hour to successfully balance her personal life, work life and tremendously overwhelming hobby.
Hindi’s libraries provides children with new and gently used books at no cost to recipients. We partner with nonprofit organizations who service families in low income communities or children with special needs who are struggling.
- More than 8.5 million children in the US lack access to literary resources needed to succeed.
- In low income neighborhoods the ratio of books to children is one book to 300 children.
- 61 percent of low income families have no books in their homes.
- Children growing up in homes with no books are on average 3 years behind those with books in their homes.
we want to change these statistics. I have already become partners with several likeminded organizations to make sure that between us all we can get books into those who are asking, but we still have a very long way to go.
We are a tremendously tiny team. My approach is always to show people that anyone can make an impact and help change the story. I’ve partnered with people in the community I’ve never met who are either taking our books to review and label, running book drives on our behalf or promoting our cause within their circle.
I’m working with children’s authors who are partnering with us in their home state while we train them remotely and families running book drives across the country on our behalf.
Any time someone contacts me to help in some way, we will brainstorm to find a way to make this person feel valuable and meaningful no matter what their interests are. By keeping Hindis Libraries personal to everyone who contacts us, we’re able to find a place in people’s hearts. This allows us to retain relationships and connections with supporters across the globe.
it’s still incredibly difficult for me on a day to day basis, however- knowing I have people who can assist me if their schedule allows, knowing that I’m not alone in running this because we have “bookworms” rooting for us, makes it worth while.
We’ve reviewed the statistics and asked our recipients to complete surveys describing their population/community (our specific book recipients) to show us the demographics of these children and young adults in regards to socioeconomic status, education level, and the such. By continuously sending books their way at no cost to them, we are closing the literacy gap and allowing them to place books into homes that otherwise do not have many, or any at all.
We maintain constant communication with our recipients and serve as an outlet for them to request books whenever they have the need.
