We built edSeed to crowdfund for refugee youth higher education. MIT Solve thought it was cool and we're a solver. Our campaigns for youth are fully funded. Now, we want to help educators in conflict zones, and expand worldwide. Here's how we're starting:
We will campaign to fund an online train-the-trainer program for women in Syria who support children with PTSD and other emotional issues resulting from the war.
From there, we will expand to train educators in conflict zones on how to use our platform to campaign for and fund their training. We'll connect them with institutions and donors who care about advancing their careers.
We are starting with the most marginalized communities. Women
in Syria who have been impacted by war have less opportunities to get
an education. Many can’t afford it, in some areas it is also not
safe, others cannot travel to college safely.
For
this project, edSeed is working with organizations providing psycho-social support who are creating the campaign for an online educator train the trainer program targeting women from Syria working with children impacted by conflict.
edSeed will fundraise for this pilot program that targets educators regardless of political affiliation or
area and
will be available in Arabic.
The
identified female educators will be trained in psycho-social and PTSD support
for children impacted by war. Two
groups of women will receive this training, women who want to go into
a field working with children (e.g., teachers, caregivers, nurses,
and others who work with children) and mothers who want assistance
with their own children. Women taking the course will receive a
certificate that can be used to attain a job in one of these fields.
The
edSeed crowdfunding team will work with organizations made up of specialists in the field,
psychologists, therapists, and psychiatrists who have all worked with
children. Team members that have been approached about the project
are excited to offer this education on an innovative platform.
The
funding from MIT Solve will expand edSeed's platform to fund training for educators, and reach a donor community interested in doing so.
Our campaigns will fund training educators from Syria in areas that have been hardest hit. Once established for Syrian educators, it will be expanded to Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, and other Arabic speaking countries. Ultimately the program will be expanded to other regions where conflict exists.
