Seeking to reduce the level of pollution in the community by ensuring proper disposal of waste right from household wastes to those from near by industries and factories. Sensitizing motor users about the dangers of exhaust emissions and how to minimize them. All this will be done through conducting natural conversation, informed dialogues and practical demonstrations in the community. Most of the stakeholders in the community will be brought on board to actively participate in the project cycle
I work with communities in the rural setting to make sure they understand the reality in their own setting s far as pollution is concerned, how their own activities are related to the rate of pollution in their locality, the effects of pollution and what can be done at the different levels to address the pollution issue. The community members have to perceive a clear understanding of pollution in their own environment and actively participatory in interventions that can help them reduce the levels of pollution to minimum levels possible with the resources they can ably access from their own locality. My vision is having an environment free from avoidable threats of pollution where people live in improved lifestyles.
Am addressing the problem of pollution in the community which is caused by improper disposal of waste and gases being emitted by vehicles moving within the community. In this community pollution of waste material alone affects seven out of every ten people directly and indirectly where most of this waste is composed of polythene bags used for packaging food materials and those used for wrapping other consumer goods like clothing and capital goods. On addition to that, gases that are emitted by moving vehicles in the community with those in Dangerous Mechanical Conditions accounting to about 77% percent of gaseous emissions which include metals among other hazardous chemicals. particularly to my project are those factors that relate to the behavior of people who dispose of wastes on the road sides, courtyards and other public places to those pollutant gases emitted by moving vehicles who are owned by people from within the communities. These people own about 75% of the vehicles which emit these gases and work within the community.
Addressing this problem initially entails creating natural conversations in suitable moments with the concerned people with groups of other concerned members for collective efforts in implementation.
This work is innovative as it involves natural conversations with all the stakeholders who must first learn and analyze the unfavorable situation in the community. It involves sensitization from the grass root where by even young children learn the best practices being being done by adults and learn them as they grow up. The implementation too is inclusive at all levels so no one is left behind or isolated may be for issues of physical disability. There is division of labor so when one stakeholder is weak in one field, he/she can utilized in another field so other capabilities can also be utilized. The process has a clear and informed theory of change with a clear inclusive action plan to be adopted by the different stakeholders and a feed back mechanism for reflections on action and further research into systems of effects and prevention for further effects. This opportunity can create employment to those people who can collect recycled materials and feed them to recycling companies, transporters and those farmers who can convert household debris into manure which can support plant growth. A zero waste policy is introduced in certain circumstances to avoid occurrence of waste.
The organization utilizes Capacity Building and Direct Service Delivery. With the continued sensitization and involvement with community members, people are best suited to know their reality so they can be open to learn new things and develop their minds and communities.
When people are helped with the little to sustain them for the present day, they are willing to exhaust their minds to plan for the next day. A hungry stomach is an angry stomach. People are unable to plan for the future since they have no hope of surviving today.
