I believe one of the deterrant factors of women returning to work is money, time and reach of resources. With the funding, I plan to expand our online presence to reach more people on developing countries with lack of resources to have these online training and set up centers where someone can go to, if they need resources or money to come of their difficult situations like domestic abuse or other factors which is preventing them from returning to work. Another chunk of money would be used towards conducting grassroots user studies on developing countries to help perfect a good robust program that can support people in developing countries with lack of resources to return to work in form of study materials and books on returning to work in local communities. Another part of the money would be used to support our servers to expand globally and create much more individualized learning track for each and every individual who signs up on our platform rather than a generic one, which is at this point. We also plan to use a portion of our money behind lawyers to navigate various organizational processes.
3 million U.S. women have dropped out of the labor force in the past year.1 in 4 women are considering downshifting their careers or leaving the workforce due to Covid. Puts women’s labor force participation rate at 57%, the lowest it’s been since 1988. Women are the most affected through Pandemic due to lack of support to maintain balance between work and family.
Returnships.org is built to help people, especially women across the world who had sacrificed their career for family or other factors to have a second shot at having a career and make them feel that their life is not over and they still have a shot at their dreams! My goal is for women to take necessary breaks, be it maternal or caregiving and have a plan in place to be able to return to work without it being a deterrant factor in the way of their career. Overall goal is to be able to help anyone to return to work without age being a factor by connecting them and training them with the necessary toolset including todays tech skills, mentoring, life coaches, career mentors, career paths, Returning to work opportunities, inspiring through successful life stories.
Our target audience is someone who is trying to return to work after a gap in career. Right now, our initiative is a global initiative. This area is untapped and these women have huge potential.
Returnships.org empowers people to go back to work after a long haul in career by being a non-stop shop for all resources needed to return to work. We aim to provide direction for someone who has no idea what needed to be done when they do want to return to work - I have built a free course that someone can take when they are trying to return to work which takes them right from their kitchen of them thinking of returning to work as a possibility to all the way to making them feel ready at the Interview table.
I have built a free course for someone at home, who has no idea what to do to return to work to figure out all steps needed to return to work. The steps in the course include hearing stories of other returners who have returned to work through our podcast which focusses on amplifying and telling stories of people who have returned to work, their challenges, struggled, what worked, what didnot etc to provide a direction of someone in that eaxct shoes. Then have built a forum for people to connect with other people who are trying to return to work. Next, after they feel inspired, connecting them to training resources, from grassroots level like learning english, computer science all the way to picking career paths, degrees etc. After they feel trained, helping to build online presence to share their story and craft their resume. If they still feel stuck, connecting them to career coaches, life coaches, therapists etc. Finally connecting them to returning to work job opportunities when they are actually ready. This is innovative because this course can be done someone who is 70 year old grandma or a college student and everyone can leverage skills for work.
Through this organization, we are changing the dialogue around women returning to work. In the 5 months of us being live and educating people of returning to work opportunities, several huge organizations like Grace Hopper conference has introduced a Returnship track to tackle returning to work conversations in the biggest women centric conference in the world, government has passed laws for helping moms, various job organizations like LinkedIn has launched an official Returnship opportunities page especially around returning to work opportunities, various companies like Amazon and Facebook has launched a Returnship program and many more. Our initiative has amplified conversations around returning to work and supporting women all across the world, we have already have enormous impact by firstly amplifying stories of women who have successfully returning to work through our podcast and speaker series, we have launched a returnships course to help guide someone right from the time that they are in their kitchen thinking of returning to work, all the way to making them ready at the Interview table to avail all the opportunities to Return to work through steps like Inspiring, training, connecting them to mentors/coaches and finally connecting them to Returnship opportunities.
