I lose my mother to cancer in 2009. It took me five years to recover from losing my best friend. In 2009 I decided to create a nonprofit which is called AFutureSuperHero And Friends. From 2009-2018 I used my own money to fund the project and I filed the paperwork and became nonprofit in May 2018.I have not looked back sense I have served over 100k people, visited all 50 states twice and served the houseless community, ill children, veterans, seniors, elderly and those in need. I found my purpose in life and will continue to serve those in need anyway we can. Our vision is To improve the quality of life and restoring the dignity of those we serve by meeting their needs and restoring their hope through the demonstration of love. Our purpose is to be there for those going thru what I went thru and the other problems going on in the world. We just want to be the distraction they need in order to get back to being the best version of themselves. Our future goal is to be able to have our own building where we can provide free food, computer lab and after school mentoring services.
We are solving the houseless problem by building a relationship first, we visit them regularly provide food, care and resources to help them get off the street. We are visiting the ill children providing them with love and support showing them not to give up.
Our scale is very high as Los Angeles is the capital of houseless crisis. Globally is just as bad but with the approach we are using we have been able to get many off the streets.
How many people are affected? There are more then 60,000 plus that are affected.
Which factors contributing to the problem relate to your project? The factors that contribute to the problem are high rent cost, low wages, depression, alcohol and drug use.
According to LA times the houseless crisis has increased 50%.
How are you addressing the problem? We are addressing the problem taking one individual at a time. Starting with building a relationship then getting them the a caseworker then getting the date they need. And finally housing .
Our organization provides services to those in need such as rent relief, housing, senior and ill children visits.
building a relationship first, a lot of organizations don’t use this method. A lot of the clients don’t trust people because there are too many broken promises. In order to bandaid the problem we must gain trust. Our style is unique because we wear costumes and make them laugh and this is called a distraction which helps break the ice.
I feel our organization has made a huge impact we have gotten 300 people off the streets even with our low funding. During Covid we stayed out there helping those in need from rent relief to groceries for the elderly and even school supplies for kids home schooling.
We will continue using the build relationship method because it seems to work very well. Also our mentoring is a great way to help the kids not reach homelessness.
