Working within a cooperative, these craftswomen (for the vast majority of weavers are ladies) benefit in many ways apart from job security to other advantages of working together as a cooperative. We want to head community development in our area by training the hundreds of artisans under our cooperative.
Our members include community youth, single parent households and other artists located within our surroundings and we specialize in finding creative ways to transform indigenous materials into functional items, we engage community youths and women to be responsible stewards towards the environment by ensuring we use sustainable raw materials that have a minimal level of damage to the environment and nature.
The cooperative members are our foundation force: the different beautiful products we produce are a testimony of our raw talent and passion behind every handmade basket we produce.
In the past, artisans have not been engaging with their product consumers and a lot of revenues diverted by agencies instead of developing and impacting these artisan communities. Artisans have lacked facilities to adopt and develop their crafting skills and welfare due to lack of collective bargaining power to present their challenges and explore other market opportunities.
Irebe decoration has put together women artisans of various skills in a cooperative to empower them with facilities to expand market, productivity and innovation. The cooperative is now registered with 120 women artisans who collectively weave baskets that are used for home living and interior decoration plus other accessories. With a show room in the city center that displays various products and a proper management team, online selling platform and increased social media presence the artisans have collectively increased sales and skills through our training and workshop programs.
Irebe decoration has put together artisan women of the same skills and trained them to weave and make a living out of their weaving skills. The UN global goal aims to end poverty ,protect the planet and ensure prosperity for every one by 2030. At Irebe decoration cooperative, we focus on making sure our work helps to achieve these goals.
Irebe decoration has set up a store and showroom in Kigali the capital city and we are suing this outlet/store as a branch to bring our beautiful baskets close to potential customers in Kigali and as a base for the community artisans to network with like minded groups of people-expose their baskets to a wide section of the market base and to also hold group exhibition which encourage local sales while creating visibility and awareness about our organization
