Lux Virtual - Computer Magic and Software Design
Illuminate Brilliant ideas | Off-line access to educational resources through open-sourced easily updated platform currently being successfully piloted.
Access to educational resources is limited in many places in the world. Our solution provides a vast array of educational resources, with thoughtful curation and user experience that requires very minimal investment, and doesn't require an active internet connection.
Our solution which is currently being rolled out across the State of Washington in the Department of Corrections system is a self-contained open sourced mass of educational resources. Our current teaching platform software is Canvas which guides our students and the instructors use for grading, tracking progress, and overall evaluation. The material can be updated at anytime through the app that we developed and the students laptops or devises just needs to be connected to the main server to transfer their progress and update their material.
This solution changes the world because now students can get access to some of the top educational resources anywhere in the world without an active internet connection. This includes Kan Academy light, Ted Talks, open source college material and a selection of material such as the Harvard Business Review, and other resources. The courses can be self taught, or linked with an academic program. Key locations where this technology is significant is correctional facilities where internet features are not an option, Navy and other military or vessels that have limited access to internet, and in underdeveloped countries where the infrastructure for active connection to resources such as high speed internet and large amounts of open source educational material is limited.
- Personalized teaching, especially in disadvantaged communities
This is a new application of an existing technology. The app we developed smoothly pulls in all the material from the different sources and uploads them on the main server. This periodic updating is not generally used now because currently you would just download it from the Internet instead of doing a hard transfer. It's an old technology that has resurfaced and had to do a lot of re-coding on downloads so they can take place without an active Internet connection (many programs look first for internet and you have to manually create the paths).
The use of servers, computers, very basic laptops, and the application that facilitates transfer of the information is at the core of our solution. Our solution utilizes the best in current technology and curates an array of resources and provides access to those resources those with some of the most limited technology.
Finish the expansion project across Washington State with the different colleges and continue to launch pilot programs across the country. With enough Seed / Grant / Venture funding we would start engaging the international market and the military sector with this resource.
This will be the known solution platform for education with ongoing updates in the US Corrections system, many international corrections facility, the US oversees military, developing countries, and other training locations where this system makes sense to be the delivery of educational material and resources.

We will reach our customers through expansion plans in the community college programs within correctional facilities, conferences, on-line promotion, and demonstration presentations in front of potential agencies and governing authorities.
At our pilot site we have served over 600 students. We recently launched into other locations across the state of Washington with an estimated use of approximately 1,500 students. Students are enrolled into the classes and provided a laptop and the resources. They have an instructor facilitate the class and lead discussions.
In the next 12 months we are anticipting in expanding statewide and into additional states in the US. We are expecting 2,000 - 5,000 new students in addition to the approximately 1,500 that have currently been served.
Within 3 years our aim would be to be active in our three markets (correctional facilities, military use, and underdeveloped countries) A high goal would be to have over 2,000,000 students actively using the platform. If we are on the current trajectory without additional cash infusion to accelerate growth then our goal would be 100,000 users in 3 years.

Business development expertise, government contract approval experience, successful grant and funding experience, and high level of skill in entrepreneurship, education, and software development.
Currently we have build the technology out and are allowing the college and corrections department utilize the system which will continue. Any additional updates, setting up of servers and system integration, customer service, or non-open source resources will come into play when we formally move forward with the company.
After recently finishing up the I-Corps program with the National Science Foundation I would say based on their model that our long-term sustainability is build on 1) setting up the computer systems/networks, 2) program updates, 3) IT Support, 4) Government contracts and grants for education resources to hard to reach locations.
The opportunity to pitch our idea to a larger audience, gain exposure, and get our team from conducting our work in the classroom and as a pilot to hitting the ground running as a growth company in this space.
Access to Venture money to build out the systems at new locations, hire and train our IT team, expand our marketing and sales team to reach out target markets, (corrections, government / military, and underdeveloped countries).
