Collecting recyclables from landfills is a hurdle. It poses health problems to those who collect and also makes recycling difficult and costly in terms of cleaning. 

Tenga Taka purposes to cultivate waste segregation from the consumer's end to avoid any recyclable item ending up in the landfills.

This will provide descend jobs to those who collect and also ease the recycling process..

In Kenya, waste management is a challenge since all trash is collected from where it is generated. All end up in the landfills, very few people separate trash for recycling since there is no system in place to facilitate this. 

While recyclers are doing a great job, little is done on the consumer's end. This makes the environment habitable and posing health challenges to the public. 

Tenga take aspires to introduce the culture of waste segregation, in Nairobi and its environs. This can be adopted globally since the problem of plastic is universal.

We leverage technology, in form of an app, where, we advocate for everyone to download on the google play store, which can be used to notify the specific collectors when the bins are full. We also provide a toll-free number to be utilized by those who don't have smartphones.

All these are collected in a designated area which will be located in all neighborhoods. The recyclers will then collect what they need from the sites.

We underpin this process by partnering with other stakeholders to create awareness and run campaigns to help people understand and adopt the culture.

Those who collect recyclable items from damping sites risk contracting infections, they are paid very little amount in exchange for the collected goods, which doesn't sustain their livelihoods nor pay for their treatment when they get sick.

Tenga take will incorporate all these collectors and provide them with descend incentives for saving the environment. 

All consumers who comply by segregating the waste will also be given incentives.

The challenge of plastic has continuously choked the marine ecosystem since most uncollected plastics end up in the rivers and lakes- this happens globally. 

Our solutions are mainly geared towards preventing any plastic from going beyond the user's end.

At the moment, the app is still under development. We are still engaging with stakeholders, but we have secured a few bins and have engaged a few institutions to begin the segregation.
