ECOACT Tanzania
We are a social enterprise that uses chemical free technology to recycle and transform post-consumer plastic garbage and packaging materials into durable plastic timbers used for building, construction as well as furniture making, Plastic timbers are affordable alternative to wood timbers, hence reduces the need for building material manufactured from wood, helping to preserve forests, cut down on deforestation and further mitigation of climate change.
While pursuing this goal to protect ocean and the environment, we also set up a micro health insurance program to provide the local population with access to health care and to help them build a locally organized waste management and waste entrepreneur system, this is a micro health insurance program which uses plastic waste as financial resources. Community pays clinic service using plastic garbage. This way the community mobilizes their own resources to improve health access and breakdown barrier between health facilities and community.
lastic waste is a global issue, The carbon footprint of plastic (LDPE or PET, polyethylene) is about 6 kg CO2 per kg of plastic and every year more than 9 million tones of plastic garbage ends up into our oceans causing ocean pollution and threat to marine life, and by the year 2050 there could be more plastics than fish In the ocean, Plastic pollution hurts both marine species and human being because as plastic debris floats in the seawater absorbs dangerous pollutants which are highly toxic and have a wide range of chronic effects, including endocrine disruption and cancer-causing mutations. Another problem is deforestation, a 2018 report by the United Nations Environmental Program estimated that Earth's total forest area continues to decrease at about 13 million hectares per year. But we realized that if we could use plastic waste and packaging materials to produce a sustainable alternative product to wood timber, we could profit from the profitable timber market while saving forests and preventing plastic garbage ending into oceans.
We have developed a chemical free, energy conserving plastic extrusion technology called “Waxy ӀӀ technology” to recycle and transform post-consumer plastic garbage and packaging materials into durable and long lasting plastic timbers, Plastic timbers are affordable alternative to wood timbers, hence reduces the need for building material manufactured from wood, helping to preserve forests, cut down on deforestation and further mitigation of climate change. The plastic timbers which are ideal product for building, construction and furniture making are normally made in 10ft on average and shaped either round or square.
Our technology is environmental friendly, using natural bio products in the plastic extrusion process helping plastic materials of different polymers reach their melting point quickly while retaining their original stability and strength, hence low energy consumption resulting to low production costs. We are simply pioneering the chemical free and energy conserving plastic extrusion technology in Africa.
The timber market we are targeting is estimated to over USD 1 billion per year with the plastic timber segment being $100 million per year with a historical 1% per year growth rate. Our goal which is very achievable, is to capture one percent by 2022. Our Business Model involves designing, manufacturing and selling of plastic lumber to Our Customers includes, real estate developers, advertising agencies, domestic home developers, furniture manufacturers, telecommunication infrastructure contractors, road contractors, wildlife conservation agencies, farmers and the government agencies.
- Create scalable economic opportunities for local communities, including fishing, timber, tourism, and regenerative agriculture, that are aligned with thriving and biodiverse ecosystems
We turn tons of waste plastic littering the streets and landfills into durable and affordable building materials making our cities and communities more green-friendly and sustainable. This innovative project recycles and transforms waste plastic and post COVID 19 used face masks into durable and environmentally friendly plastic timbers using a mechanical and energy conserving technology called -Waxy technology. The end products that include Plastic timbers are an affordable alternative wood timbers and can be used for building, construction and furniture production. This technology has the potential to counter environmental degradation, preserving forests and mitigating the effects of climate change.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth.
we launched our product in the market in June 2019, We have managed to secure a good base of clients and our venture of 19 full time staffs is run by the generated sales revenue, we are currently serving an average of 153 customers per month.
- A new technology
Normally the plastic extrusion process takes time, which increases energy consumption and increases production costs; this has been a major challenge to many plastic extrusion facilities in many parts of the world, which has forced those facilities to use chemicals to speed up the extrusion process, the chemicals that in turn pollute the environment.
So We have developed a chemical free, and energy conserving plastic extrusion technology called “Waxy ӀӀ technology” The technology solves both issues, uses natural substance – natural profiled waxy (from the bees) which are inverted during the extrusion process set at different temperature, helping plastic materials of different polymers reach their melting point quickly while retaining their original stability and strength, hence low energy consumption resulting to low production costs We are simply the pioneer of chemical free and energy conserving plastic extrusion technology in Africa.

Our solution is currently saving over 400 people, in the next year on expansion to Uganda and Rwanda we will be saving over 5000 People and in the next five year looking on our franchising model we will be saving over 50,000 people.
We measure the impact of our project by looking on:
1. Amount of waste plastics withdrawn from the environment and prevented from ending into the ocean that has been used to manufacture plastic timbers.
2. Number of families provided with Medical health insurance on exchange with their garbage through our micro health insurance that allow poor families exchange garbage for medical health insurance.
3. Number of employment opportunities created for marginalized communities and youths.
