Managing invasive species.
1. To assess the extent to which invasive plant species affects composition and diversity of natural vegetation.
2. Eradication of invasive plants species and if not possible, management options should be identified in order to balance the negative and positive impacts since in some cases, invasive plants species provide useful products or services.
3. Eradication or proper management of invasive plants species reduces competition they've with other natural vegetation which have economic values hence there'll be increase in benefits acquired from natural vegetation eg reduce CO2 levels which reduces Global warming.
1. To compare differences in plants community composition and diversity between highly invaded and less-invaded areas.
2. Global scale.
3. Many people.
4. The existence of many plants species is brought about by different factors that facilitate proliferation of these plants. Many produces very many seeds that help in dispersal. This gives the ability to invade habitats which provide a medium to high temperatures. Some plant species can easily establish in degraded environments. This makes them good competitors amongst other plant species allowing their survival and abundant establishment. Most plant species also has unpalatable foliage which is poisonous and grows mostly in moist areas favored in well drained loamy and clay soils.
Invasive species are species that are non-native to the ecosystem under consideration and whose introduction causes or is likely to cause environmental harm or harm to human health (CBD, 2002;).
1. Mechanical control which includes cultivation, mowing, pulling, this involves pulling out or digging out the invasive plant species. 2. chemical control through spraying by use of herbicides.
Natural vegetation. Some are facing challenges from invasive plants species. Managing the invasive plants species. Using their diversity and composition in invaded areas to generate the effects from invasive plants species. Managing Invasive plants species will reduce competition with the natural vegetation.
- Provide scalable and verifiable monitoring and data collection to track ecosystem conditions, such as biodiversity, carbon stocks, or productivity.
the condition of natural vegetation in invaded areas is monitored and frequent field results help understand the success of the project. Also the scale of natural vegetation growing in presence but managed Invasive plants species is understood.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
Invasive solanum nakurense has become sense in karatina university botanical garden and it's competing with herbaceous plants species for food, space, light etc
- A new application of an existing technology
it clearly shows the gaps that are not yet studied like educating the public on the harmful effects of intentional/ unintentional introduction of Invasive plants species. It would be catalytic because the number of Invasive plants species will reduce in many areas. This will lead to increase in ecosystem diversity.
