Protected Environment Agriculture

Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), also known as Protected Agriculture can be defined as an integrated Science and Engineering based approach to establish the most favorable environmental conditions for plant productivity while optimizing resources including water, energy, space, capital and labor thereby providing the desired plant product or biological process under controlled conditions

Erratic rainfall patterns, low yields, pests infections are some of the challenges that are avoided in Protected environment Agriculture.

In Protected Agriculture, the farmer is able to produce all year round without depending on natural rainfalls. The crops are protected from all sorts of pest infections limiting the use harmful insecticides.

Crop yield can go up to 1000% higher than open field farming. Vegetables or other crops produced from Protected Agriculture are of very high quality and are free from all kinds of contamination. The help the farming to produce high quality organic vegetables.

The Agriculture sector is faced with many challenges including the negative effects of climate change on the African agriculture sector. There is therefore a great need to find lasting solutions to these challenges to solve some the pressing needs and transform the African Agriculture. 

Protected Agriculture is one of the smartest solutions to transform and improve vegetables and other crops production. 

Its comes with so many advantages as the crops produced using this type of agriculture are much more secure and safe for consumption. CEA is one of the best food production system in the world that gives the farmer complete peace of mind, as he takes complete control over production and distribution of production in given time frame. 

My solution consist of growing vegetables and other crops in a Protected Environment called the Controlled Environment Agriculture or ENVIRODOME GREENHOUSE FARMING. 

These are special building made for farming equipped with several modern farming technologies devices that allow the farmer to grow crops all year round with crop yields up to 1000% higher than normal or open field farming. 

Its a completed automated system where crops especially vegetables are grow under strict conditions protected from any outside influences including weather and other pest and diseases infection that attacks plants.

Technologies such as speaking plant approach, artificial light sources, automatic  weather, temperature and irrigations control technologies are some of the few technologies available in Greenhouse farming that gives the farmer a guaranteed  crop production all year round without any possible failure. 

Project will mainly benefit women and the youth in the community. Many decent jobs opportunities will be created for women in the community. Project will also be an Agriculture training center for the youth.

We want to make Agriculture attractive to the unemployed youth that do not have any interest in Agriculture. We believe agriculture can be a major tool to fight youth unemployment and extreme poverty. 

This project will provide more than 70 direct and indirect employments to women and the youth in the community where project is been implemented. 

Women and youth empowerment by providing decent employment opportunities that will take them out of extreme poverty at the same time make vegetables available all year round at very low prices especially in this period of COVID19 pandemic and beyond, as we have experienced an extreme disruption of the food value chain and high prices of vegetables and other food items during the first weeks lock down period of various major cities in Ghana.

Due to limited fund available for us, our vegetable productions are limited mainly to open field farming. We are yet to build our Controlled Environment Greenhouses. 

Our well trained team members are equipped with necessary tool to successfully build and manage the Greenhouses once necessary funding becomes available to us. 

We have a total of 15 dedicated farm attendants waiting for the implementation of the project.

New agricultural technology in the form of an Enviro Dome Greenhouse System is said to be the future of vegetable production in Ghana and possibly Africa. The farming technique, will allow for crops to be grown year-round in a controlled environment. This will result in the consumption of safer and higher quality food.

Higher crop yield of over 1000% (one thousand) % achieved compared to open field farming. 

Currently employing 15 men and women 

By next  we should be serving 50 people 

and in 5 years our project should create 150 direct and indirect employments

We are gradually making progress by approaching several organization that can help us fund our project. Some these organizations are

GIZ, Cognoz international, Enterprise Village Accra and Resilient Ghana. 

These organizations have the potential to help us scale up as soon as possible. 

5 people are currently working full time on the solution

We have well trained team trained by experts in Agriculture from the University of Ghana that are ready to carry out this project successfully. 

This is also go to be a training center for the unemployed youth that are willing to take agriculture as business and replicate the same project in other parts of the country

We are already partnering with German organizations like GIZ and GOGNOZ international to help us access the German and EU market. this a strategic partnership that helps us export our vegetables to the EU markets and obtain necessary Organic certifications 

Our project is part of the women's empowerment one. Any addition source of funding that will help us reach our goal will be highly welcomed.

The service now price will help develop new agriculture practices and new technologies available in today modern agriculture. We will learn new smarter and efficient ways of crops and vegetable production. Our project will also be a training center for the youth that will like to take agriculture as a business and profession. All these new technologies will make agriculture attractive to the youth.
