Geoception
Each year the world is ravaged by a huge number of natural disasters and chronic environmental issues. The year 2020 alone saw 980 such events, recording financial losses of USD 210,000 million, apart from a huge loss of rich biodiversity. Chronic Ecological problems are chipping away carbon-rich ecosystems and give rise to adverse ecological conditions. This alteration of the globe is highly unsustainable and undesirable.
We intend to make such vulnerable ecosystems more resilient by involving the 3 major levels of environmental management in any area - Govt., NGOs, and local communities. Geoception helps them arrive at effective, proven solutions to prepare for and mitigate such disasters, reducing ecological and infrastructural losses. The user will be provided with a unique solution pool for their query, providing them with the freedom to implement a proven and well-founded solution.
Geoception aims to provide existing effective solutions to the Governmental organization and NGOs inclined towards solving environmental issues. The software aids these organizations by widening their strategies with verified scientific solutions to address the problems.
Natural calamities exist in all parts of the globe and affect all walks of life, the year 2020 alone saw 980 such events, recording financial losses of USD 210,000 million. Geoception covers all aspects of the problem, from prevention to mitigation.
Geoception hopes to bring the applicable solution to the right authorities to create a resilient ecosystem and increase its sustainability.
We offer our solution in the form of software, that aims to act as a repository of data on various conservational and disaster preparedness/mitigation, and offer a collective pool of solutions curated for a particular problem input by the user, hence increasing the time and effectiveness of relief and restoration measures. After effective collection of enough data, by implementing Machine Learning Geoception will be able to create solutions according to the given circumstances.
The database will contain data obtained from NGOs and local communities of different geographical areas. We have chosen to partner with such groups for obtaining data, as they are the front-line workers towards building resilient ecosystems, and would have tested their solutions directly on-site for their effectiveness.
Geoception is aimed to serve government organisations and NGOs that work towards ecological preservation, restoration and natural disaster preparedness. Communication of ideas to tide over ecological degradation and disasters in the current framework of administration is stunted and ineffective. Our product comes to the rescue wherein we collect ideas of preservation and restoration present in various parts of the globe, create a database, and offer a unique solution pool for the user to choose the best method for his/her ecosystem.
- Other
Geoception meets the demands of the Challenge in creating opportunities to preserve and restore carbon-rich ecosystems and biodiversity hotspots, whether terrestrial, coastal, or marine, with a possible avenue of aggregation of local projects and solutions and exporting them to another ecological area under similar environmental duress.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea.
This idea of software for this purpose has not yet been conceived anywhere, and we wanted to cover all aspects, pros and cons, of the solution, and work out its feasibility before rolling it out as a service
- A new application of an existing technology
The solution is unique in itself, as no existing structure of such software is known to be used by the organisations of interest.
Also, considering time as an effective and expensive resource in addressing ecological disasters, we help in reducing the users’ time in researching for a best-fit action plan and rather help them focus it towards much-needed relief and response actions.

The current scope of the solution is planned to cover the NGOs and the Government of India. We plan to extend this scope across Asian countries in a year’s time and bring it to the global scale in five years.
We intend to measure our progress according to the UN indicators to measure the Strengthened resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries.
- number of deaths and missing people affected due to natural calamities per 100,000 people
- Number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies(which involves the effective use of the software)
- The proportion of local governments that adopt and implement local disaster risk reduction strategies in line with national disaster risk reduction strategies
In addition to these UN regulations, we also intend to measure our progress by comparing the financial losses in consecutive disasters.
- Not registered as any organization
Two members, including Team Lead (Student Ideators)
The team members are active learners from the field of science and engineering, who are pursuing their education currently. Being part of the younger generation, we are well aware of the rapid climate changes around that. Apart from such steady issues, we were also able to point out that the government and the public have been inefficient and ignorant in responding and planning towards natural disasters until date. Especially in our country India, this was a major problem in the city of Chennai, which experienced 3 cyclones and massive flooding all three times between 2016 - 18, yet suffered from acute water shortage each year.
Being science-oriented persons, and having experienced situations where timely and effective solutions would have strengthened our communities against natural calamities, we believe we have the right idea and knowledge with us to upgrade each and every community and make them more resilient and productive.
As of now, we aren't registered as an organisation.
However, once we have established one, we are always open and eager to work with people from different identities and backgrounds and develop a holistic working community focused on the rehabilitation of the planet.

Through our solution, we aim to make communities safer and smarter in responding and preparing for immediate and chronic natural disasters.
Our team believes that this prize can help us in realising the above-mentioned statement, as we believe that the software has huge potential to upgrade these ecosystems and reduce ecological and infrastructural losses commonly associated with environmental problems

The solution's main idea is to create and transport ideas of mitigation and restoration between similarly structured environmental systems.
Through this, we aim to develop a global community that can exchange verified ideas of ecological management that can be applied from any basic level to a nationwide level.
We believe this prize would help us to realise the software, and build a global community focused on ecological rehabilitation and environmental management.

Geoception displays a solution pool linking all the relevant solutions to the raised problem. In the future, we intend to keep continuous track of the chronic ecological problems and with the help of Machine Learning, we intend to propose a set of appropriate solutions.
In the near future after we acquire a decent amount of data, we intend to address the upcoming problem with solutions generated by the software itself.
We feel that this prize could position us to create the software and put it into use around the globe.
