LLEPDEC TRUST
PROBLEMS
1.The harvest of goat skins in particular is wasted day in day out.
2. No value addition is involved in the Leather Sector benefitting the owners of ruminants directly/indirectly.
3. Artisan are denied source of immediate availability of leather for manufacture of leather products.
4. The Community is denied access to poverty and destitution reduction for reasonable livelihood.
SOLUTIONS.
By providing SKILLS in PRESERVATION OF SKINS, TANNING of the PROPERLY PRESERVED SKINS and manufacture of products utilizing the leather, the communities earn a living and eventually move out of the poverty levels as jobs and wealth is created within the society which can then be scaled up for Rural and semi urban industrialization curbing movement into cities to seek the dwindling jobs which are no longer available and back e self relient
With the scalable ventures, the world can off take products realizing they benefit the left behind inclusively.
The rearing of goat skins as will be done, will ensure proper animal husbandry management which will give manure to crops for organic fertilizer. As a result the crops will eventually be organically nourished without toxic elements from inorganic fertilizers.
The proper domestication of goats in particular will allow proper rearing which will give on one hand good meat and on the other well nourished skin for good leather and subsequent quality competitively.
Being sustainable, domestication of these ruminants in question, assure resilient ecosystem from the village setup to the artisanal ventures whose market crosses borders for global benefit at large There
Therefore the reliance of each section of the Value Chain ensures a resilient ecosytem both before and after each division of the leather Value Addition.
In other words, proper upkeep of ruminants as far as housing, pasture, clean drinking water and proper branding coupled with proper flaying procedures, proper Preservation methods and care for long-term storage, the skin quality remains at high level ensuring high pricing when being vended for Ecotanning.
The quality of the ecotanned leather is bound to have preference versus mineral tanned leather employed in most industrial tanneries hence this devised unique BOTTOM TO TOP APPROACH has far reaching appeal to users out of AFRICA.
The environment is preserved and at the same time the customer readily takes in the leather knowing it's environmentally friendly during manufacture as well as during it's usage by the customers.
On the other hand, this upcoming program SME's have what they would need to produce items manageable at their level resulting into job and wealth creation symbiotically effected from ruminant rearing through proper Preservation of the skins, ecotanning into leather and production of environmentally friendly products of various outlook denoting ultimate sustainable competitiveness within and out of Africa.
The improvement starts with the noble farmer who gets empowered to rear the ruminants for a better earning both from the crops when he organically nurtures them and from the proceeds of the well domesticated ruminants.
The community tanner/tanners will ecotan ensuring the leather which has been elusive in Malawi for over 4o years will now be able to be sourced by the destitute artisans and their counterparts thereby ensuring better livelihood among a wide spectrum of the left behind in wealth creation.
- Create scalable economic opportunities for local communities, including fishing, timber, tourism, and regenerative agriculture, that are aligned with thriving and biodiverse ecosystems
The farmer benefits by using the droppings for manure.
The butcherman gets a well nourished ruminant for meat and the yield of the skin ultimately becomes nourished as well as being properly preserved for a quality ecotanning..
Finally the leather product fetches high price arising from quality of leather which provides earnings for livelihood from ecotanning for competitiveness to the masses within the left behind communities
Finally product are organic and largely sort for for being ecofriendly
Therefore the value addition denotes concrete interdependence which is sustainable being a natural resource.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth.
Trials were done home based.
Pilots done in some Comesa member countries.
Now being implemented by 2 Entities in Zambia for definite permanent venture.
- A new application of an existing technology
This Appropriate Technology in the Leather Value Chain is new in the sense that it modernizes ancestoral way of processing skins.
It then takes the modern process and make it befit the cottage ecotanning but at the same time embracing Cleaner Production to ensure nothing is short of how the processing is done industrially ensuring that when the Skill Provision is imparted , the technology is ecofriendly, hazard free and scalable for Rural and semi urban industrialization allowing working near their residences for better all round management of home affairs.
In essence the monopoly of outside investors is thwarted and allows for mutual reliance for jobs and symbiotic exchanges of part processing.

SOME MEMBERS.
There are members who are already advancing the uplift of lives among us in Africa to ensure the left behind communities are nurtured to be self relient and here we have the advantage that the natural resources are within our home vicinity which are part of our day to day way of life which makes it simple to scale up.
As the funding modes are already being carried out it then only requires to probly reroute to take our noble course and cause
BILL GATES FOUNDATION would be mentioned here among others. We presume MIT SOLVE would be in a better position to link us appropriately. ( even for our future academic proficience in future a a thesis)

In MALAWI in particular, we have Dzeleka REFUGEE CAMP
It is full of devoted individuals who can be given the Leather Value Addition skills
The Community would immediately benefit from the offered SKILLS to utilize in making Artifacts saleable locally and abroad and be able to give them a more comfortable life for themselves and uplift the standards of camp confinements by having pertinent amenities for the whole community.

In BAngweulu Northern Zambia Almost all males rush to the marshes for fishing since the readily available source of income is FISHING.
As a results, the off season strict enforcement are futile because there aren't any other alternative sources of activities to give some income.
With some support from AFRICAN PARKS, there is opportunity to provide leather value addition as a diversant income generation.
Hence the need to provide the Skills in Ecotanning and subsequent product manufacture to engage the women and mature girls for tanning and men and mature boys for product manufacture so the community can give time to the rivers and lakes to build up fish population.
The Leather Value activities will keep the men off the parks thereby stopping poaching which diminishes the rare wild animals for touristic gains.
