Aqua Forestry
Forests, the lungs of the world. Reforestation efforts will succeed if Africa solves the causes of deforestation. Africa with the smallest carbon footprint gets biggest carbon impact damage. Climate Change Challenges, now Covid pandemic, lock down devastation, no stimulus package, UN-vaccinated, poor medical facility, corrupt governments, other challenges like food security, desert locusts, famine, population explosion, diseases. Reforested Forests will again be destroyed for human sustenance needs.
Uganda Global Entrepreneur #1, has Huge untapped aquaculture natural resources, youthful population. Know how and funds turns all into an afforestation asset. We have the proof of concept.
AquaForesty a commercially viable Climate change mitigation restoration enterprise solution that runs as a business. It solves local community problems that converts forest destroyers into forest lovers by meeting their basic needs sustainably. it educates community about leaving with the forests and nature sustainably with global benefits. Business is the driver to scalability.
Forests attract many people to acquire, settle and use the resources for agriculture, firewood, timber, poles etc. NFA has spend huge resources reforesting environment but being short staffed, they dont have capacity to police the entire country forest land. Now with the pandemic, frustrated laid off NFA staffs search for survival turned protectors into exploiters of these forests. These staff know and exploited the vulnerable spots and NFA weakness. This they offer to the private people for quick buck. Now the forest is being decimated, at a very fast rate, with impunity.
Climate change is a bigger global challenge than the pandemic. Developing countries still have forests reserves and land that can be forested. These global carbon sinks need a community based sustainable solution the community leaving near forest land can relate to.
AquaForestry proof of concept model attract investor to put money in a viable conservation project that farms fish commercially preserves and encourages planting forests.
Human population in Uganda is increasing at a rate of 3% per year, the annual demand for fish for human consumption and trade is projected to increase from the present 870,000, deficit of 300,000 tons, to 1,700,000/y tons by 2025
Our aquaforestry solution provides a viable business preposition that attracts private investment into aquaculture and forestry that boosts fish production, Restocks water bodies with native fish species, generates money, educates the local people and helps the community with their needs of fuel wood, timber, poles, fish and employment on a sustainable basis. It also educates and attracts tourism money.
Private sector led initiative to set up commercially viable aquaforestry parks that generate money provide employment and are protected as business is a win win solution that with aquaculture led reforestation, we restore forests with indigenous trees, restock water bodies and fish nurseries with indigenous fish species while farming fish commercially in ponds and tanks to make this a viable business in aquaculture tourist attractive facility that at the same time allows locals to harvest timber, poles, wood sustainably at a fee. The solution also educates the community on the sustainable use and benefits derived from forests. This stops the wanton destruction that is so rampant mainly because of lack of knowledge.
Tanks and ponds commercial aquaculture is a sustainable project. The community can harvest fish from lakes and rivers for their basic nutritional needs and to sell for their livelihood.
Uganda's explosive population growth at 3% per year, has annual demand from the present 870,000 tons to 1,700,000 tons by 2025. Presently, annual fish production is about 570,000 tons with 450,000 tons derived from capture fisheries and 120,000 tons from aquaculture. The annual per capita fish consumption is about 10 kg per person which is way below the recommended level of 20 kg per person by the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations. This implies that there is presently a fish deficit of about 300,000 tons annually.
This huge challenge is an investment opportunity in aquaculture. An investor can take advantage of Uganda's huge aquaculture natural resources and the population turned into an asset workforce to commercially farm fish. Aquaforestry makes the available vulnerable forest land the right solution to boost aquaculture production, restock dwindling natural fish reserves, restore and protect natural forests for the benefit of the community, provide a Global benefit carbon sink. Aquaculture is also the only viable sustainable solution to reduce pressure on natural fish and restock depleted natural fish stock.
The project improves livelihood and provides employment, farmed fish and wood fuel, timber, poles and other benefits of a restored forest like herbs, wild fruits, foods and eventually carbon mitigation that helps the whole world. NFA will achieve its objectives with the minimal staff but without spending lots of money on paying unfaithful staff. or recruiting new staff.
- Create scalable economic opportunities for local communities, including fishing, timber, tourism, and regenerative agriculture, that are aligned with thriving and biodiverse ecosystems
Aquaforestry
Restores/Preserve NFA carbon-rich forest ecosystems and biodiversity with indigenous trees and restocks water bodies, within these forests, with indigenous fish species.
Verifiable monitoring/data collection tracks ecosystem conditions.
12x1 acre aquaforestry projects on 5Ha NFA forest land each generating 45tons/A fish valued at $274,500/A worth EU export certified quality fish, total value $3,294,000/A. This attract investors, financial services capital to restore sustainable ecosystem services, mitigate environmental damage and degradation for water bodies, forests and provide carbon sink.
Scalable economic opportunities for local communities, include fishing, timber, tourism, and regenerative agriculture, that are aligned with thriving and biodiverse ecosystems
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community.
We developed a special tank fish farming technology of aquaculture called CACANA and have been doing it for the last 5 years and know how to solve the challenges of the aquaculture tank fish farming industry to viability. A forestation using tiny forest technology and using indigenous trees will be done with the expertise from NFA staff. This is their core competence. So after NFA gave us the land, we are combining the two existing well tested know how to set up a new pilot proof of concept project with a purpose of sustainable reforestation. This will be a demo real estate property pilot project of one acre to be offered to the public with 12 more projects to be rolled out using this as a model. This demo real estate project will be rolled out into the other land properties that we will get from NFA.
- A new application of an existing technology
Aqua Forestry, we are taking viable sustainable aquaculture as key component to attract private sector investment into reforestation projects using assisted natural regeneration. We believe that capacity to generate an income sustainably through sale of commercially produced fish is a good financial incentives to spur investment in reforestation that leads to the viability of the project. Other methods tried to encourage and invest in tree planting, but since this activity did not generate money sustainably it failed.
This project, with a little training and demonstration, turns forest destructive forces into sustainable restoration and preservation of the very forests because the community have been taught to appreciate forests and an alternative sustainable income is provided. The success of this project makes it a model project that attracts investment into global conservation efforts.
Planting indigenous trees for afforestation and hatching and restocking aquatic animals in water bodies is a native innovation use of traditional knowledge and technology to meet the social, environmental, and economic goals of their communities?
This key to boosting aquaculture production while providing relief on the depleted fisheries resources and restoring the destroyed resource to fast recovery and improving prosperity is a sustainable solution.
The country has been looking for a viable commercial aquaculture solution but with minimal success. The industry challenges that, for the last 10 years, seem un surmountable. as a result aquaculture in 2012 harvested 95,000 while in 2018 harvested only 120,000Mt/Y from more than 25,000 ponds and 1,300 cages. Finite capture fisheries is declining.

The solution currently serves the 13 projects with 10 people each for a total of 130 people directly, and this is meant to serve the surrounding village composed of about 5000 people. We intend to start with this as a model in one years time we should be able to address a community of about 50000 people and in five years this should to 200000 people.
We will look at the first proof of concept project and use it to set standards and parameters on which we will measure subsequent projects.

We already have a working hatchery, nursery1 and 10 nursery 2 out growers. We have the most successful aquaculture solution for pond fish farmers. We are giving them good quality seed fish to awaken their subsistence fish farming to commercial viability. We are basing all our operation of commercially viable solutions that generate own funds.
We have 11 acres planted with eucalyptus but will cut it down to make plots. We have applied for 5 ha of National Forestry Authority land and we plan to use it for setting up Fish tanks and fish ponds surrounded withtiny forests.
We will now set up a proof of concept system on our land and the land of NFA.
We have gender balance and employ based on qualifications with no discrimination. As we operate with a cooperative society, we automatically welcome all types of members without discrimination.

The $10,000 price money, is an opportunity to import oneStar Drill gigsvalued at $13,475.30. We are getting it a at
special package price of $9,339. This gig is used to drill vertical 6 inch
diameter holes in the ground to up to 100 feed depth where if we
insert geo loops, we can extract heat from the ground, boost it
through a heat pump to heat water for the hatchery and nursery. The same
equipment can be used to drill water wells where required
especially for water for fish farming systems.
In Aquacuture hatchery we use a lot of wood to heat water for the broodstock, hatching of the fish eggs, nursing of fish larvae and fish fry to juvenile stage. In African countries the energy fuel of choice is biofuel. This is not carbon smart. We believe we can change that by using technology to tap Geothermo energy.
Climate change is a huge global challenge that the world is grappling with along with other challenges. Afforestation is one of the mitigation measures that developing countries with large forests can play if they can be assisted and trained to meet their day to day basic livelihood needs sustainably.
Teaching communities to plant and care for forest carbon sinks is a win win solution. Solves global challenge makes such an opportunity available that fits the existing need for funds we are trying to access.
In the absence of pandemic stimulus support package for most countries like Uganda, Solve funds could get our project off the ground for the benefit of pandemic/lockdown impoverished displaced communities whose only option is to destroy forests for survival. This mitigation restores preserves and introduce a new chapter of sustainable eco living that not only preserves our forests but encourages planting more that sequester carbon for the global benefit.

Refugees and displaced people for whatever reason have primary need of nutritious food on the table and cash in their pocket. our solution includes producing fish food in the tanks that can realism fit a small backyard commercially and it can be sold for cash generation. Also if this skill is learned in the refugee camp it is a powerful incentive to go back home and resettle as the refugee will have a skill to start earning with immediately.

Traditionally in Africa, women are charged with putting food on the table, fetching wood and water and looking after children and the family as a whole. The man goes to work and brings in money. So it is the woman who is most impacted first by climate change, indoor air pollution due to bad fuel wood. So this solution improves quality of life for women and girls

Global over fishing will get a relief if there is means to restock the depleting fish stocks, give relief to natural fish hatcheries by providing alternate sources of juvenile fish and improve aquaculture to the extent that it can completely replace the traditional ancient fish hunting. Currently aquaculture supplies more than 50% of global aquaculture needs.
