Knowledge Angels

Imagine a legion of knowledge angels ready to vanish the adult illiteracy from the world...in months!

We are committed to end adult illiteracy in Brazil in a short period of time and spread this solution for as many countries as possible. Today there is more than 13 million adults (over 155 years old) in Brazil that do not read/write - in the world there are over 700 million people, most of then are women (63%).

The solution will help to find out where this people live and connect that person to a teacher (or a trained volunteer) in a one-to-one basis - retired teachers could be a helpful hand. The "knowledge angel" will have one mission only: teach one person to learn how to read and write. The platform will provide a common methodology, training, psychological support, collaborative tools to exchange experiences during the "mission".

Illiteracy is one of the biggest problems all over the world and lead people to low self-esteem, health problems, exclusion from society, violence and poverty. Using the power of many (exponential) in a short period of time we can change this reality together!

The idea uses cell data to map where the illiterate are and help the "angels" to connect with them. Existent technology will be used to train and collaborate, measure the evolution of each mission and track results.

Adult illiteracy is a problem that carries a lot of prejudice, shame and trauma, most of the time. Many people do not want to be exposed in a class and a one-to-one connection maybe will make easier the process of learning.  Inviting retired teachers to jump in could help to accelerate the adoption all over the country.

Mobility is key to this solution and a platform where the angels will find all the info needed to move on with their mission. In Brazil, most of the population uses cell phones and access internet through it. To map the people that are illiterate, campaigns could use social media, and family members or friends should help to indicate people to the program.

The most difficult thing to me is to connect the people that need the knowledge to the knowledge angel, because they will not live in the same neighborhood.

Provide a platform/app where people who wants to participate as an angel could sign in, understand the mission and find a person to help (in Brazil).

Spread the word over social media, engaging former teachers, teachers and anyone interested in solve this tremendous challenge.

Find partners interested in solving this problem quickly and search for partnerships that promote that solution all over the country, specially in rural and the poorest areas.

The idea could be used in several countries, although of course, the language will not be the same. I think the stigma of being an illiterate person is basically the same all over the world, and the boundaries should be only the language spoken in a specific country where the solution will be adopted. People from other countries could "serve" as angels in countries that speaks the same language and serve as multipliers of the methodology.
