EDUPLAT
The Pandemic has dismally affected more than 80% learners in Africa yet for those in rural areas, it destroyed millions' academic visions. Leaners in rural areas or low income families do not have get enough practice as they can't afford to buy textbooks and other relevant stationary. In most areas in Africa, schools are very far, learners struggle to get to school and even if they do, some teachers undermine them and to make matters worse they don't even get learn properly as most learners are neglected especially because of their background. Further, more than 10 million learners in Africa have certain disabilities which hinder them from learning properly especially in this pandemic.
Eduplat is a platform being developed by Stemgon in South Africa. It consists of two mobile applications and one website and one control panel also known as the backend. This platform will allow learners to learn online and offline. As people learn, it examines their performance yet giving them feedback. This allows learners in remote areas get enough lessons and practice hence effectively improving their standards.
At a global level, this platform can be used with respect to all African syllabi, content could be added by teachers who are registered in the platform and enrich every learner in their region.
Problems being solved are
- lack of proper practice for African learners and this affects more than 70% of learners in Africa due to various reasons such as
- lack of proficient educators.
- lack of study material
- lack of schools in their regions hence forcing them to walk long distances.
- lack of content that addresses learner's syllabus. This affect more than 50% of learners in Africa especially in Zimbabwe and Zambia.
- lack of a platform to learn and be heard as a group or as individuals.
- learners in Africa do not know where to post their challenges and in this platform we hope to add a section where they can do that.
Eduplat is a platform being developed by Stemgon. it consists of a mobile application in Android and the other in IOS. Educator in any region in Africa will be able to post notes or videos for the same grade in the region and under a particular syllabus. Learners will be able access the video where or not they know the educator. This content will be made available offline by downloading it.
The platform will examine students based on their performance and give them feedback. Educators can add test in multiple choice with answers for each question and learners will partake.
Videos will be in high quality format. Th learner can leave their details in the platform. The platform will use latest and useful programming languages.
It targets every learner living in a remote area in Africa. It will help learners in Africa understand mathematics and sciences thereby bringing innovation in Africa. Learners in rural schools are neglected because they don't even have access to textbooks and other study materials. Most learners in Africa fear to even touch a laptop hence this platform will be an eye opener for millions of learners as they will know how to use their study materials. Stemgon which is the team developing this platform will team with Carrington Visionary Academy to create lessons. It will also target schools in remote areas and show learners this platform. Learners will get enough notes, lessons and textbooks that will help help study even better.
- Enable access to quality learning experiences in low-connectivity settings—including imaginative play, collaborative projects, and hands-on experiments.
Eduplat will bring access to quality learning for most learners in Africa. As most learners in Africa can not afford better education this will help learners have safe equitable learning environments
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community.
Eduplat platform partially exists as Carrington Visionary Academy although it was commercial it has achieved great results to over hundreds of learners in South Africa and Beitbridge.
- A new application of an existing technology
while Udemy is for adults, Eduplat is for primary and high school learners. This focuses more on teaching academic subjects as opposed to industry related courses. This platform will be free and will be marketed on for African who do not have access to fair education. This will also contain a white for practice and it will also have a forum for learners to ask question to each other. This platform will be integrated with other social networks for account creation and more.

Currently in South Africa our solution serves around 200 people in South Africa yet it can serve more than that in years to come if all the proper structures are put in place the whole of South Africa and other learners around the globe can be enrolled.
In one year it will include over 500 learners if we get the support and in 5 years time it will serve over a million learners around the continent.
- We measure the number of learners we enroll every year, reduced inequality.
- We have also seen a shift to tech based study material amongst our learners.
- We have seen that most of our learners not only practice better but also know how to practice especially on STEM related subjects.
- Although inequality is a huge issue in Africa in our platform we have taught learners to help each other.
- We have introduced or brought unity and togetherness to our learners.
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
Our team consists of 23 full-time staff.
Five of them are data analyst, 15 are software developers and 3 are accountants. Of the software developers we have five who have over 10 years of working experience in this industry while our Data Analyst are highly experienced. Five of our developers are qualified programming language specialists. All our data analyst have a minimum of masters and have been involved in bigger project with FNB in South Africa.
As the leader of the team, I hire through someone with experience, proper ethics, and the morals to maintain peace in the team and equal inclusive team. To make sure that every one is included in the project I divide the given task by the number of team members and give to everyone a task that they will lead our team when working on that project.
This allows every member to participate equal and be involved in each and every project. As a team, we follow the rules and regulations of the company and the country to bring order in the working environments. I believe our moral, ethic and enduring support on one another will continue to be a filament that will continue to shite at Stemgon for Eduplat and Carrington Visionary Academy
- Organizations (B2B)
We are applying because we believe Solve can help us become an independent institution that will continue to help every child in Africa. We also believe that our idea is relevant to African learners as we are trying to address problems that African learners are facing
- Human Capital (e.g. sourcing talent, board development, etc.)
- Financial (e.g. improving accounting practices, pitching to investors)
- Monitoring & Evaluation (e.g. collecting/using data, measuring impact)
- Technology (e.g. software or hardware, web development/design, data analysis, etc.)
Stemgon wishes to continue with Eduplat in the long run and for this to be a success, we will need proper monitoring and evaluation, proper hardware from SOLVE for the production and editing of content. We also need investors that can help Eduplat's vision become true as we have been working on it for while.
I would like to partners with MIT Initiatives and Solve Members and any other relevant institutions.
